Good luck on your finals!

HSB's First-Year Connection Program

  • Do you want to stay involved in Honors, but don't know what do do exactly now that Honors 121 is over?
  • Are you an upper division student who wants to get reconnected to the Honors Program?
  • Do you often want to go to Honors and HSB events, but it'd just be nicer if you had someone to go with?
  • Ever wonder who the other Honors students are in your major?
  • Do you want free things?  Perhaps some advice on what the heck an Honors project is?
HSB's brand new FHP Committee will be implementing a new Honors peer advisor program called First-Year Connection during the spring semester that aims to connect second semester freshmen with upper division students in their college.  Think of this as a way to connect with older/younger Honors students in your college, learn about upper-division Honors requirements and opportunities, meet even more people in Honors, and eat a bunch of free food.

Watch your email for more information, specifically about a questionnaire and ways to sign up.  If you have questions, contact Kourtney Kostecki at klkost21@iastate.edu.

Join Tutoring Services

Tutoring Services staff are in the process of recruiting tutors for Spring 2015.  While we do not have a list of specific courses at this time, we do encourage students to apply.  This Fall, we had requests for tutoring in more than 300 courses across the university.

Application Dates:
Becoming a Tutor
The Academic Success Center is looking for tutors interested in assisting others while gaining leadership experience, strengthening their facilitation and time management skills, and acquiring transferable skills a future employer will value. More than 90% of tutees surveyed agreed they were more satisfied with their college experience because of their involvement with tutoring.  In addition to aiding in others’ success, tutors can facilitate their own academic success using the skills they learn to apply in their sessions. Students have the flexibility to work as few as 2 hours or as many as 20 hours per week! Not only does tutoring offer flexible hours and great pay ($9.50) for a campus job, but it is a valuable learning experience and resume builder

Students can tutor for any course in which they earned a ‘B’ or higher.  For more information the application process, students can contact Joshua Mitchell (jjm1@iastate.edu) or visit http://www.dso.iastate.edu/asc/tutoring.
