New bookstore: My Imagination Kingdom

My Imagination Kingdom is a children's bookseller based in Singapore dedicated to bringing the magic of books to life for children. The newly opened bookstore at One KM Mall houses over 2,000 titles available from authors like Eric Carle, Karen Katz, Sandra Boynton, Leo Lionni, Mem Fox, Julia Donaldson, Dr Seuss, Roald Dahl, William Joyce, Suzanne Collins, J K Rowling and others.

Event: A Visit to Ah Ma

Ace Khong will share the story of A Visit to Ah Ma and interact with the children by asking questions and allowing children to share their views. The author will also share steps on creating their own illustration books. Conducted in Mandarin.

Daddy blogger Kelvin Ang shares quotes and words of wisdom about fatherhood from the book Keep Calm & Father On by artists, politicians, celebrities, philosophers and writers from around the world, to help you survive the rollercoaster journey of fatherhood.

Event: An Elephant for Adil
Date: 12 Dec 2014 (Fri)
Time: 6pm - 7pm
Venue: National Library Building, The Plaza (Stage)

This is a fun-filled and interactive storytelling session on Adil’s adventure to find the right animal. Children will have a lot of fun in this bilingual storytelling workshop that uses English as a medium for children to discover and understand simple Malay words and phrases. Some segments conducted in Malay.

Event: Write What You Know... Superheroes!

What makes a good superhero? In this writing workshop, the authors of the Sherlock Sam series will help children create their very own superheroes! Participants will learn the basics of creating intriguing characters to use in their own stories.

The Art of Writing a Biography

Join Ken Hickson, a former journalist and communications specialist in New Zealand for 20 years, on a public talk as he elaborates on writing a biography. 

Ken has produced hundreds of talks, lectures and articles for media — in print and online — worldwide. His latest book, Mr SIA: Fly Past, is an authorised biography of Lim Chin Beng — the man who got Singapore Airlines off the ground.

Dark Revolver Poetry Reading

Join local poets Elancharan Gunsekaran and Vithya Segar of Dark Revolver for a mystical evening of poetry recital.  

Beguiling and bewildering, the poems in Dark Revolver parallel issues that plague the human civilization of today: the ravaging of innocence, the decay of the soul, the apathetic nature of the modern individual and his exhaustive obsession with the past, and the intellectualisation of divine madness.
Scholastic Picture Book Award 
The Scholastic Picture Book Award (SPBA) is a joint initiative between NBDCS and Scholastic Asia, and is presented biennially to an outstanding unpublished picture book with distinct Asian themes by an Asian team of writer and illustrator.

The best entry will be awarded the Scholastic Picture Book Award, and win a prize of SGD10,000 and a plaque. The winning manuscript will also be considered by Scholastic Asia for publication.
