The I AM PETERSBURG ® brand will instill a sense of collective community pride, drive tourism and serve to bring economic vitality to the City by driving new business. I AM PETERSBURG ® is an open source brand, meaning the brand will be made available for use by the City and all its stakeholders. New Primary Care Facility in Petersburg
Bon Secours Virginia Health System celebrated the opening of the Bon Secours Freedom Healthcare Associates in the newly renovated Freedom Support Center, located at 32 W. Washington Street in Petersburg on Tuesday, December 9. The new medical center, designed to meet the medical needs of active and retired military personnel and their families, marks the health system’s first primary care presence in Petersburg and the Tri-Cities region. PAT Hosts Luminary Trolley Tour for Friday for the Arts
Petersburg Area Transit has partnered with the Resident Planning Group of Westover Avenue and Friday for the Arts, to conduct a Christmas Luminary Celebration Trolley Tour on Friday, December 12, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Trolley will leave from Petersburg Area Art League (PAAL) located at 7 East Old Street at 5:40 p.m., 6:40 p.m. and 7:40 p.m.

"Tip A Cop" for the Holidays
Petersburg Police will be waiting tables at the following restaurants on December 12,from 6 to 8 p.m. for the annual “Tip A Cop” fundraiser. All proceeds will be used to purchase Christmas toys for kids residing in trailer parks and motels.

Camp Day of Service
On Friday, December 5, 2014 fourteen minimum security non-violent inmates from the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBP) correctional facility located in Petersburg, Virginia received services and resources at the Petersburg Freedom Support Center (PFSC) for the first "Camp Day of Service". All campers served in the U.S. military and volunteered to participate.
Each camper followed their schedule spending twenty minutes with vetted service providers at the PFSC to assist with disability claims, pension and appeal process; money management, credit rebuilding and bank account information; healthcare enrollment and eligibility; education options and GI Bills; employment services, resume building and job readiness; prison re-entry and veteran housing; homeless prevention and case management, document retrieval, mental health support and re-entry assessment, individual therapy and substance abuse counseling.

Christmas Tree Recycling
Residents of Petersburg can take Christmas trees to the Tri City Regional Recycling and Disposal facility from December 26, 2014 through January 16, 2015. During this time, Christmas trees only will be accepted at no charge. The trees will be recycled at the facility. Or, residents can place Christmas trees at the curb with their trash cart to be collected on their regular collection day. Remember, only 10 cubic yards of bulky waste, to include the tree, may be placed at the curb for collection.

Deadline for CDBG Applications
The deadline for submission of applications for the use of 2015-2016 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Funds is by the end of day January 9, 2015. City agencies and private non-profit corporations are eligible applicants. This is for the operating year beginning July 1, 2015 and ending June 30, 2016. Copies of the application form are available on the City webpage at the Department of Planning & Community Development in both PDF and Word format. Applications should be sent to the Department of Planning & Community Development, City Hall, 135 North Union Street, Petersburg, Virginia, 23803.
