Welcome to St Clement’s, a contemporary, Redemptorist retreat and conference centre set on 800 acres in a tranquil, picturesque setting in rural New South Wales, Australia. The Redemptorists are a religious congregation of priests and brothers within the Catholic Church who live in community for the sake of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, especially among people on the margins of society and church.

What's on at St Clement's in 2015

A wide range of retreats with themes to help anyone seeking spiritual growth will be offered at St Clement’s Redemptorist Retreat and Conference Centre next year.

In addition, a highlight of the year’s activities will be the inaugural Three Saints Festival, paying tribute to Saints Clement, Patrick and Joseph, on Sunday, 15 March. It will be an ideal opportunity for everyone to enjoy the monastery and its historic surrounds. On offer will be market stalls, an art exhibition, fun activities for children, food, face painting, bush poetry readings, tours of the monastery and museum as well as use of the centre’s 25-metre swimming pool.

The year’s program will start in February with a music retreat weekend, a practical art weekend and a six-day retreat.

'A fantastic experience'

Our staff at St Clement’s get many accolades for their work. We thought you’d like to see a couple of the comments.

Thanks to all of you for being wonderful hosts. Your hospitality, beautiful food, friendly service and can-do attitudes made our jobs so much easier and pleasant.”

“The food was great, the rooms were great. I didn’t hear a single complaint.”

“It’s not often you get to tell people you just had a few days away in a monastery or a castle on pristine, beautiful grounds.”

Comings and goings

Busy days at St Clement’s as the year comes to an end. The retreat and conference centre has been filled by a wide range of groups, including clergy retreatants from the Canberra and Goulburn Archdiocese and Wagga Wagga, Bathurst and Wilcannia-Forbes dioceses, Anglican and Uniting Church clergy, school principals as well as a group taking part in a women's Cursillo. The extra pressure of large numbers didn't affect the quality of hospitality and welcome of the St Clement's staff.

Eighty local government staff from surrounding shires, as well as Randwick, Sutherland, Canterbury and Cobar, spent three days competing for the Corporate Leadership Cup Challenge. They have been generous in their praise of the hospitality, food and friendly service they received.

With Christmas just around the corner, 80 Rotarians from Harden, Yass, Boorowa and Young brought plenty of festive cheer as they celebrated an early Christmas dinner together. It was a busy, and a highly successful, night.

Did you know?

Some 2,000 young men were educated at Galong before the college closed in 1975 and a retreat house was established. For more on St Clement's click here.

From the Rector

Dear Friends,

It is with great pleasure that I write these few words for the launch of this first enews letter from St Clement's Retreat and Conference Centre, Galong NSW. The retreat centre is a ministry of the Redemptorist Fathers and Brothers and we are coming up to celebrating in 2018, 100 years of Redemptorist presence and ministry in the beautiful south-west slopes of NSW, just one and a half hours from Canberra and the ACT.

Pope Francis is urging us to live in the Spirit and grace of the Lord and to experience the joy that the Gospel offers us. The Pope encourages us with a timely reminder that God loves us beyond measure. Christian hope leads us to believe in the promises that the Lord does not abandon us.

Through this enews we hope to provide a link for you to join your memories of past visits or the anticipation of a future stay, with this beautiful and sacred place. We hope that it is a source of information, inspiration and a friendly way to keep in touch and to know that our prayerful support is a source of encouragement and joy where ever you are. I wish to thank the editor of this enews whose initiative it is and commend it to your interest and reading.
