State of the Step Sisters - December 2014

President's Message

As 2014 comes to a close, The Step Sisters look back on the year and are grateful for the ability to continue to fulfill our mission of funding quality-of-life services for local breast cancer patients.

We officially began our relationship with Inova Loudoun Hospital in January and, over the course of the year, funded more than 40 services to their breast cancer patients. Support of and participation in our 2014 Ribbon Run, Think Pink Auction and Step Sisters’ Scramble, along with generous donations from local businesses in the month of October (see below) made this all possible.

Thank you for helping us make 2014 a fulfilling year and we look forward to growing and continuing our mission with you in 2015.

Happy Holidays,
Angela Fuentes, President

Needed: Volunteers, Sponsors and Participants!

Our biggest fundraiser is around the corner on April 18th!...the 8th Annual Brambleton Ribbon Run 5k-10k Run/Walk & Kids' Fun Run!

Based on our experience and feedback from participants, we have chosen to move our online registration to a new platform. Benefits of this move include lower fees for registrants as well as an updated and easier process.

Early Bird rates go up in just a few weeks, so register today!  We invite you to take advantage of a special discount created just for our "inner circle" - $3 off 5k and 10k registration from now until December 31st using coupon code "2014EARLY".  We welcome any feedback you may have after going through our new registration process.

Plans are underway and our current efforts are focused on event sponsorship. If you are interested in supporting the event through sponsorship, or know someone who might be, please contact Ashley@StepSisters.org.

This event cannot succeed without volunteers. This year's race will require more than 200 volunteers to ensure a smooth and safe event. To check out the opportunities, go to our online volunteer sign-up.

For more event details, please visit our website, www.BrambletonRibbonRun.com.

NEW Advisory Members

Our organization continues to grow! The Step Sisters would like to welcome Dr. Amy Irwin as a Medical Advisor to the Step Sisters and Sarah Strohecker as a member of the Advisory Committee. Dr. Irwin is a Medical Oncologist at Virginia Cancer Specialists and we are fortunate to have her as an Advisor on medical questions and issues related to breast cancer. Sarah played a big role in the 2014 Think Pink Auction and Step Sisters’ Scramble and we look forward to her involvement in these events and more in the future.
