On newly issued SaskPower tenders, prime contractors no longer have to exclusively use the MERX e-bid system to submit to SaskPower!  Here are the approved methods from section 7 of their standard Instructions to Proponents:
1) by submitting one (1) original master document of their Proposal, in its entirety, by delivering it sealed in an envelope to the Procurement Department Address on or before the Proposal Submission Deadline.  The Proponent should also submit (3) three copies of the master document for evaluation purposes.
2) by submitting one (1) original master document in its entirety by facsimile, on or before the Proposal Submission Deadline.
3) Proponents have the additional option of submitting their Proposals and supporting documentation online through the MERX Electronic Bid Submission system as a portable document format file (PDF) on or before the Proposal Submission Deadline.

OHS Code public consultation

The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Code contains the technical work site rules that protect the health and safety of Alberta's workers. Between 2012 and 2014, as part of an ongoing process, Albertans provided feedback on which areas of the Code were in need of review. The government has since reviewed the Code based on feedback received and developed proposed changes.

Business owners and operators

We would like to hear from you if you conduct business within Alberta and across provincial or territorial borders. Please complete the "interprovincial trade barriers for your business" survey if there are any sections the Code that you believe create a barrier to carry out your business across borders. Our goal is to make it easier for you to conduct business across interprovincial borders, and your feedback will be considered as part of this consultation.

Greater labour mobility focus of Premiers’ meetingAlberta, Nova Scotia sign labour mobility agreement

Premier Jim Prentice issued the following statement after meeting with Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil and signing two labour mobility agreements:

“It was a pleasure to meet with Premier McNeil today. We had a productive discussion around a range of issues and acknowledged the benefits of having our provinces work closely together.

“Alberta and Nova Scotia have engaged in ongoing work to improve apprentice mobility between our provinces. Today, we signed agreements designed to improve apprentice mobility and promote the mutual recognition of pre-employment training between our provinces. Labour mobility is a key element of a strong labour market and contributes to economic growth, innovation and productivity.

“Whether it’s at the Council of the Federation or one-on-one meetings like we had today, Alberta and Nova Scotia have a long history of working together. I look forward to working with Premier McNeil on areas of mutual interest for our provinces.”

2nd Annual Lloydminster Job Fair
&
Proposed Eastern Canadian Recruitment & Job Fair
February 2015

The Lloydminster Construction Association along with The Lloydminster Chamber of Commerce are proposing to work with our counterparts in the east, particularly Ontario. Planning is also in the works for the 2nd Lloydminster Job Fair, more information to follow. (Check out pictures from our February 2014 Job Fair )

Lloydminster & Region are experiencing an acute labour shortage, especially in the skilled trades. This has been an ongoing issue. While in Eastern Canada there are double digit unemployment numbers. It only makes sense that we market our regions attractions  there with the goal of labour force recruitment.

We hope to recruit 10-12 local businesses who require employees and are interested in investing and participating in this project.
