Event on “Industrial Automation Technology”, organised by Multivista and Panduit
Multivista in association with Panduit organized an event on “Industrial Automation Technology” on the 27th of August 2014, in Chennai.

Mechanical challenges tackled effeciently for Atchayam Food Box
Atchayam is a first-of-its-kind food outlet that provides a wide variety of fresh and healthy food to customers through an automated dispensing process.
The company partners with other restaurants to provide a range of food options for its customers.
When a customer walks in to the FoodBox outlet, they can choose from a variety of menu options, offered from the various partner restaurants. Once the customer makes the selection and the payment, the food gets packed in a box automatically and delivered to the customer instantly, just like an ATM.
The project presented the below challenges:
- Machine was operated with more number of axis
- Configuration with the bar code reader was cumbersome
Solution
- Allen-Bradley Compact Logix, Kinetix 350 Servo system, Panel View HMI, Ethernet/IP were used to tackle the challenges posed
- All axis were sized with respect to the mechanical aspects through Motion Analyzer and configured with the PLC
- Bar code was configured with the PLC through ASCII

Control and Synchronization solutions offered for Facile Machines
Facile Machine is a leader in the machine packaging industry, providing complete packaging solutions for the past 30 years. Facile machines offer a wide range of automatic lined carton packing machines that are tailor made to suit customer requirements.
The project presented the below challenges:
- Production output was 150 PPM (package per minute) – was not able to achieve..
- Synchronization with Tea Bag Machine was not possible
- Synchronize to Transfer, Pouch and Web Conveyor
The CMX PLC was used along with K6500 Servo & HMI for Controlling this Envelope Machine and helped increase the speed. K6500 Servo’s were controlled and synchronized with Transfer, Pouch and Web conveyors. The tea bag machines and envelope machines were synchronized through the encoder. Cost effective control system and user friendly HMI operating systems were used.

Machine Controlling and Monitoring solutions implemented for SEIGER
SIEGER is an engineering company that offers cost effective solutions in sheet metal fabrication,textile machinery and industrial automation. With futuristic vision and die hard zeal SIEGER strives to be a reliable global supplier.
The project presented the below challenges:
- Control by different types of operation stations with a single controller
- Monitoring the machine process temperature, time and fault alarms
Solutions were provided by Micro Logix1400 PLC, discreet, analog I/O modules and panel view C400 & C600 HMI. Single PLC controller controls different types of operation station (i.e) Inlet conveyor, pre-conditioning chamber yarn conditioning plant, outlet conveyor, stretch wrapping, weighing and unloading conveyor. HMI used for setting and monitoring the machine process temperature, time and fault alarms.

Solar Positioning Solutions for KGDS
KGDS is actively involved in developing standalone solar thermal power plants, solar-biomass hybrid power plants for round-the-clock operation, solar desalination for providing potable water in arid rural coastal areas, applying solar energy for process steam, and a combination of the above.
The project presented the below challenges:
- Getting accurate information on where the sun is.
- Replace black-box solution used to automate the movement of solar panels with a more reliable, cost-effective approach with less wear on the equipment
To tackle these challenges the Allen-Bradley Micro 850 controller that uses a software with preprogrammed Solar Position Algorithm from National Renewable Energy Labs (NREL) was used. Solar Position Algorithm automatically provides accurate information on exactly where the sun is anywhere, any time. FRABA Inclino meter was used for correct feedback from solar panels. Here one controller has the ability to drive 500 feet of solar panels opposed to the previous approach, which required one device for each panel. This solar tracking system has dramatically streamlined the development and operations for the organization.
