Arts Access’ inclusive arts education series, “Arts for All”, has included workshops and webinars for teaching artists and arts educators across North Carolina, from Asheville to Wilmington. We are excited to introduce the newest workshop in this series.
Arts Access is pleased to present The IDEA Summit, in partnership with CAM Raleigh, for teaching artists and arts educators. This workshop will emphasize key elements of inclusive arts education and a panel of teaching artists will give specific examples of classroom activities and lesson plans that works well in an inclusive classroom.

Woman's Club of Raleigh
ART FESTIVAL
The 2014-2015 Arts Festival of The Woman's Club of Raleigh and Junior Woman's Club of Raleigh is Monday, January 26, 2015 from 12:00 until 8:00 p.m. at The Woman's Club of Raleigh, 3300 Woman's club Drive, Raleigh NC 27612.
The Arts Festival is billed as the largest Arts recognition program for young people in North Carolina and is in its 49th year. Awards information and entry forms are now available for students from the Raleigh area. Students in Grades 6-8 may participate in Crafts, Visual Arts, and Photography. Students in Grades 9-12 may participate in Drama, Literature, Music, Public Speaking, and Sewing as well as Visual Arts, Crafts, and Photography.

GROUP EXHIBITION
A limited number of slots are open for a small group exhibition in the gallery of the Woman's Club of Raleigh. This exhibition is open to artists with disabilities. To have your work considered email 5 images of your artwork to Brandon before 15th!

VSA International Young Soloists Award Program
A Jean Kennedy Smith Arts and Disability Program
Each year, a select number of outstanding young musicians with disabilities, ages 14-25, from around the world receive the VSA International Young Soloists Award. These emerging musicians win a $2,500 prize, professional development experiences, and the opportunity to perform at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Started by Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith in 1984, the program, open to musicians of any instrument or genre, has provided opportunities for hundreds of emerging young musicians with disabilities.

Inclusive Arts Education in Greenville
Kudos to the Snicker Society. Under the leadership of Cynthia Bickley Green, students and staff at East Carolina University are providing after-school arts education lessons for students with disabilities. In the photograph above the students are proudly displaying artwork they made during a "Picasso Portraits" activity. The lesson was inspired by the Kennedy Center’s VSA art curriculum entitled “Yo Soy el Futuro…Je Suis l’Avenir…I Am the Future…

INDY Week - Mean Streets
INDY Week editor, Lisa Sorg, wrote an excellent article about the danger of navigating Downtown Durham as a person with a visual impairment or who is blind. The article was so compelling our Executive Director, Betsy Ludwig, wrote a letter to the editor, commending them on their efforts.
Arts Access has taken special note of the Triangle's ever growing downtown areas. You may remember our accessibility efforts with SPARKcon in Downtown Raleigh. We are happy to work with any downtown events planner who would like to make sure their event is accessible to all people.

VSA Quilt Square
VSA Tennessee put out a challenge to all 89 VSA affiliates to make a decorated fabric square to be included in a quilt celebrating the 40th anniversary of VSA. This quilt is being presented to Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith at the VSA celebration in the summer of 2015, recognizing her leadership and support.
As the VSA Affiliate for North Carolina, Arts Access reached out to Alice Zincone at Governor Morehead School. Alice's students partnered with students at Little River Elementary School in Durham NC, to create the quilt square you see photographed above, representing the beautiful state of North Carolina.
