Lesson 537: God's Proven Protection
Psalm 91 describes how God’s protection relieves our fear. When Satan tempted Jesus to jump from the Temple, Satan quoted from this Psalm. Matt.4:5-6 = Psa.91:11-12 But Satan neglected to quote the previous verse:
Psa.91:10 no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent.
Satan wanted Jesus to prove by jumping that God’s protection was real.
Matt.4:7 = Deut.6:16 Jesus said, “You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.”
The next verse Deut.6:17 You shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God
At Massah, the Israelites grumbled against Moses and God due to thirst. Exo.17:1-7
They were wondering if God’s protection was real, or were they better off under Pharaoh.
God had proven Himself with sign after sign: 10 plagues, parting of the Red Sea, manna.
Psa.95:8-9 do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah, as on the day at Massah in the wilderness, when your fathers put me to the test and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work.
Now the Israelites demanded another sign; they insisted that God prove Himself again.
This is always a sign of unbelief, a lack of faith – they didn’t trust God.
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
