Adrian Lux about life in LA

SACC-LA’s marketing manager Fia Cristoferson got the chance to do an interview with Adrian Lux, they discussed his music, Sweden versus LA and his show at the Avalon on Saturday. Adrian has been in LA a lot during the past couple of years, but it was not until November last year that he decided it was time to move here.

- It has always been a dream of mine to work with music as well as live in the US, and when my career started to take off a few years ago I knew I wanted to move here. I was thinking of New York too but with the scene emerging so much over here the decisions was easy in the end. Now that I know LA better there are many differences between working here and at home. Things are very personal in Sweden, I could sit at home and work on music with my friends while here there is much more pressure on what you do, more people work with music as their 9 to 5 job and that’s a big change for me.

Was it only the fact that the scene is emerging here, that made you decide this was the place to go or were there other things that made you interested?

- There were other things I was curious about, I’ve lived in Stockholm before and was tired of the city. I wanted to live in a house instead of an apartment and of course the weather, as a Swede the West Coast weather is something you've always dreamt of!

That’s true! Now that you do live here, are there any other things you’ve come to like about it and what do you miss the most about Sweden?

- Of course I miss my family and friends the most, but also the clear air and the water in Sweden. Although, the best thing about LA is that the city motivates you to do new things att the time, you don’t fall into patterns like you do back home. If you have a day or a night off you find something cool to do, like go to a comedy club, go hiking in the hills or drive down to one of the beaches. In Sweden it’s more of the same thing every day.

So this Saturday you’ll perform at Avalon, are you excited?

- Yeah, it’s gonna be fun! Avalon is an old famous venue and I’m really looking forward to perform there! It feels great to play in LA and have a show like this before 2014 is over cause I get to show some of my new stuff. Next year I’m releasing a lot of new music, I’m trying to bring swedish music vibes here and make cool stuff, as well as go more into a personal vibe sound. I’m going to be here in LA, working with my music, touring and have a lot of fun!

Thank you so much Adrian Lux for taking time to talk to us, we’re very much looking forward to the performance on Saturday!

How to make Swedish Glögg!

The Swedish Christmas Tradition can be made by yourself

Swedish Glögg served the traditional way in small cups with raisins and almonds. Photo: Claudio Bresciani/TT

Here in LA we don’t have a winter of months of cold weather, but in Sweden the winter is filled with snow and ice. Come colder days, Swedes rely on one drink in particular to warm them up again: Glögg. The beverage has been a Christmas tradition in Sweden since the 1890s. The shops are already packed with different kinds of glögg, but why not make your own?

The Local wrote a great article where John Duxbury shares his favourite recipe with The Local, read it here and make your own glögg this Christmas! We like it very much and we are sure it will taste just as good without the Swedish cold.

Arthur

The Swedish Dog

Opponents in the Adventure Racing World Championship held in Ecuador encountered an unlikely competitor this year: a dog. It all started when the Swedish team of four extreme athletes completing the 430-mile adventure race through the Amazon stopped for a meal break.  Mikael Lindnord of the Swedish team realized a scruffy looking dog was staring at them. Feeling sorry for the stray dog led to Lindnord to feed it a meatball. Six days later the Swedish team finished twelfth in the world with one extra team member crossing the finish line with them.

Arthur was the name given to the dog that grew inseparable to Sweden's team after eating the meatball Lindnord fed him. Arthur continued on with the team for miles of the race, running and swimming along side them to keep up. At one point, it was even reported that he got stuck in mud and teammates had to help him out. Before starting the last leg of this 430-mile hiking, biking, and kayaking race, officials suggested that the Swedish team not bring Arthur along for the sake of his safety and theirs. Yet Arthur refused to be left behind. As the team hopped in their kayaks, Arthur jumped into the water and began swimming beside them until a teammate helped him into a kayak.

Refusing to be left behind led Arthur to become famous across Sweden. According to the team's Facebook page, it also 'led to standing ovations from everyone on the shore, seeing the five team mates set off.” During the race the team

would often feed Arthur with their food, because he couldn’t find any for himself in the Amazon. Upon crossing the finish line, the team brought Arthur to an Ecuadorian vet to be treated for a few injuries he acquired throughout the race, among them was a deep cut on his back.

After all this, the team decided they couldn't possibly leave Arthur behind and started searching for a way to bring him back to Sweden. Their solution involved setting up a PayPal account for donations to help cover Arthur’s vet bills and travel expenses. Lindnard was uncertain whether Arthur would be allowed to enter Sweden, but that didn't stop him from trying to bring his new best friend back to live with his family at home. On Facebook Lindnord wrote that he almost cried in front of the computer screen when he received the decision from the board in Sweden. The Swedish board of agriculture approved Arthur’s entry into the country.

The now-famous Arthur has landed safe and soundly in Sweden where he was greeted by the media and fans, He is required to stay at a dog quarantine in Stockholm for 120 days before he can return home to the Lindnord family in Ã–rnsköldsvik. The team made a recent Facebook post thanking people for their help. In light of all this, they've also established the Arthur Foundation, to support stray dogs.
