A Community Response

"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere" - Dr. King

Dear White Plains Presbyterian family,

There is a local Westchester action planned for tomorrow (Friday,12/5) at 12 noon in White Plains to respond to "the lack of indictment in the choking murder of Eric Garner, the continued criminalization of Black and Brown people with impunity, and the killing of Black people and people of color here in Westchester".

At the November 20th Hudson River Presbytery (HRP) event, "Beyond Ferguson: Creating Space in our Churches for Hard Conversations about Race, Racism, Power and Privilege," held in the WPPC sanctuary participants from HRP congregations expressed a clear desire to move from conversation to action and to be a visible witness in actions decrying systemic racism and injustices in our communities.

Tomorrow we have an opportunity to be that witness right here in our own city.

We will gather in the White Plains Presbyterian church parking lot tomorrow (Friday) and depart from the lot at 11:40 a.m.  If you are able to attend and would like to walk over together please reply to this email. The community plans to assemble at the fountains (Main Street and Mamaroneck) for a "die-in", the symbolic act of lying on the ground and then will march to the Westchester County Government building located at 148 Martine Avenue. You are invited to participate according to your comfort level.

The Rev. Jeffrey A. Geary
The Rev. Sarah Henkel
The Rev. Lynn Dunn
