Where the Wild Things Are
International Day 2014!
Maui Prep's 8th Annual International Day dawned bright and sunny. Teams were at the school early eagerly preparing for a day full of friendly competition. The morning began with the Opening Ceremonies, officiated by Ryan Kirkham and newcomer Nathan Bulat. Each Middle and Upper School team was introduced (with some good-natured ribbing) along with their Lower School captains and teammates. After the Opening Ceremonies the games got underway, with soccer and tug-o-war being the highlights of the day. Madagascar was presented with the gold medals at the Closing Ceremonies, with Russia and Costa Rica a very close second and third. It was another fantastic International Day and a big mahalo to the PTSO and parents that organized and prepared another outstanding International potluck lunch.
Thank you to Valerie Leon for her fantastic pictures!
Turkey Run
The 5th annual Turkey Run saw Jonah Kirkham once again flying to the finish line. Though Mr. O'Riordan was close on his toes, no foul was called and Kirkham won first place for the third year in a row. The run was open to the West Maui community and Maui Prep students from Kindergarten through 8th grade. There were about 30 runners stuffed at the starting line and six lucky winners of a Thanksgiving turkey. Big thanks to the Upper School cross-country team and coaches Reader and Nakamura for facilitating the event. Hopefully runners are gearing up to beat Kirkham next year; he's riding the gravy train at this point...
