Because our oldest daughter Laura is a nurse and has to work on Christmas Day we are getting ready for an early family holiday. Laura and her husband Eric will fly from South Carolina, our son Scott is already here in Colorado, our middle daughter Lisa will drive from medical school in Kansas City and then my Mom, brother and sister-in-law will come from Texas for a full house. This is always a special time of year to share with loved ones and I hope that you have a wonderful holiday season, too.

Acrylics and Collage

The goal for my new 2014 Creative Corner has been to try something new each month - different techniques, new mediums, mixed media, fun colors - anything goes. For TEXTURES OF SPRING I combined acrylic paints with collage using colored tissue and rice papers. The beauty of this technique is that you can paint, collage, paint and collage some more until you are happy with the final results. I used a gallery wrapped canvas so it is ready to hang as is or can be slipped in to a standard size frame.

Birds

I try to post to my blog several times a week to keep everyone updated on my art. One of the fun things about a blog is that you can view present and past paintings by topic or category - see all of my BIRD posts here

I would love it if you checked out my Facebook Creative Painting page!

I think irises are my favorite flower to paint. I love their overall shape and frilly, ruffled petals.

November Series

The focus of our weekly classes in November was to tackle each of the Primary Colors. I have always loved painting in cool tones so of course my favorite color was blue. For FRESH SNOW I used all shades of blue and even leaned towards some purple for the shadows in the snow and trees.

I love painting big, colorful tropical flowers like theses hibiscus. Fresh From My Studio

A pretty butterfly flitting about the flowers. I began this painting by masking out the shape of the butterfly and applying watercolor loosely on wet paper. When all was dry I removed the masking and painted the details on the butterfly and used negative painting to define flower shapes in the garden.
