Lesson 344: Abraham, His Son & His Servant
Gen.22:6-10 Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife… Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!”… “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son…”
Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son.
In this passage, Abraham is a picture of God the Father; Isaac is a picture of God the Son.
One of the most beautiful pictures of salvation in the Bible is Abraham's servant finding a bride for Isaac.
Gen.24:2-4 Abraham said to his servant, the oldest of his household, who had charge of all that he had…swear that you won’t take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites among whom I dwell, but will go to my country and to my kindred and take a wife for my son Isaac.”
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
