MMMF Special Needs Music Scholarship 2015

To kick off fundraising efforts for a Special Needs Music Scholarship, MMMF joined forces with Strummerville (Joe Strummer Foundation for New Music) http://www.strummerville.com on August 22nd to host a benefit concert and celebration of Joe Strummer at The Continental Club in Austin, TX.  A huge round of gratitude to Strummerville and all the bands, volunteers, sponsors and donors who made the evening a killer success!  As part of MMMF's All Abilities Rock program, MMMF will be accepting applications for the scholarship until the end of the year from qualifying musicians or bands who would like to be considered.  Open nationwide and to all ages, applications can be downloaded at www.musicmovesmountains.org .  If you would like to donate towards the scholarship or get involved as a partner, please contact Julie.frost@musicmovesmountains.org .  Help us create better opportunities for those who rarely get the chance to pursue their dream, and let the world discover the talent and beauty of all abilities!

MMMF Receives Instrument Donation from NORCE

We are so excited to announce that we received a generous donation of instruments from NORCE (North Oklahoma Resource Center of Enid)!  If you don't know the tragic story that unfolded in the past few years or the history of NORCE and its closing (state-run home for the developmentally disabled since 1910 that provided in-house care 24/7 and resources including music therapy), read below. We have been working with former NORCE music therapist Elizabeth Allen for over a year now to attain these instruments in order to funnel them back into the special needs community through our music therapy/education programs in Oklahoma. She worked many years using music therapy to enrich the lives of these residents and is doing her best to make the most of a very unfortunate and sad situation by championing the donation to our organization.  Our first stop was delivering a Yamaha upright piano to OKC's SixTwelve, a space dedicated to creativity and sustainability (co-founded by Amy Young, a music and arts educator).  MMMF is looking forward to possible future collaborations with them in 2015.  If you would like to help in our efforts, we are in need of donations to help cover the expense of moving costs, repairs, and utilization into current programs!

MMMF's Feeding the Soul series returns with Kyle Reid

Just in time for the holiday season, MMMF's Feeding the Soul music series returns with Oklahoma's Kyle Reid performing at the Sterling House, an assisted living and memory care facility in OKC.  MMMF's fundraiser over the summer in OKC helped garner local support to bring music to those suffering with Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases.  The music memory muscle is situated in a different area of the brain than the affected speech and memory areas, and can tap into memory recall and trigger recognition, creating connection once again simply through a melody from youth.  It is a miraculous and much needed form of natural treatment for those suffering and can have lasting effects.  Our goal is to also bring more awareness of the Music & Memory program www.musicandmemory.org (as spotlighted in the Sundance Award winning documentary Alive Inside) and to facilitate our own hands-on musical experiences, not only for memory care patients, but for all who can benefit from the therapeutic powers of music.  Please make a donation today to help us bring these opportunities to the community!

Help MMMF raise awareness by donating your social voice!

We are trying out a new platform to spread the word about our organization and the need for support. As a non-profit with a mission (and not a big budget), it is hard to rise above the noise of getting lost in the mix of millions of posts on Facebook and Twitter every day. We have an opportunity to raise awareness and gather supporters in a united front approach. You can help by donating your social voice here. We need 100 voices by Thanksgiving (November 27th) in order for this platform to launch. Just click the link below and choose how you want to share info about us. It takes five seconds, costs nothing and is like gold to us.  Join our efforts and we will sing it harmoniously to the world loud and clear together!  This is a simple yet exponentially effective way to help!
