After working with residents living near public schools, M025 at 145 Stanton Street and PS142 at 100 Attorney Street, we were able to have the extended use permits for the “alcohol-driven social sports leagues", NYC Social and Zogsports rescinded. We discovered that both of these adult social leagues inaccurately portrayed themselves as not-for-profits organizations to the Department of Education.
For years residents living next to the schools and those living among the bars featured as an extension of these leagues, have seen their quality of life negatively impacted by groups of adults in matching colored jerseys. The participants of these leagues had little regard for the fact that people live here, displacing neighborhood children from the playground, engaging in raucously loud games near residential buildings, and traveling in packs post-game to "socialize" at sponsored and unsponsored bars, often entering and leaving overly intoxicated and disorderly.
Added to the chorus of community concern was the unhealthy messaging and negative values promoted by NYC Social and Zogsports to the youth in this community--team names that promoted a type of alcohol, celebrated binge-drinking / alcoholism or implied sexual and / or drug innuendo and official sponsorship by Bud Light and American Honey Wild Turkey.
Looks like Libation at 137 Ludlow, the sponsored bar of NY Social, found a way to capitalize by throwing a wake for the kick ballers with an open bar (illegal) and dance party all night (illegal no cabaret license).
Hopefully now that the league permits have been revoked, we will have less bar hoppers in matching jerseys wrecking havoc in Hell Square...
