Max T. Barnes wrote his first hit song at the age of 19, Verne Gosdin's “Way Down Deep”.  Max T. and his father Max D. ('D'as in 'Dad') have penned familiar hit songs including CMA Song Of The Year nominee "Love Me" by Collin Raye and "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes" by George Jones.  They have written for Randy Travis, Diamond Rio, Alan Jackson, Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty and dozens more.  Incredibly, the father and son songwriters were pitted against each other for CMA Song Of The Year in 1992 where the father won with "Look At Us", the hit song he co-wrote with Vince Gill.

“My poor mom didn't know who to root for,” Max T. remembers. “I am proud to have been a part of the only father/son competition in CMA history.” His father had also won in 1989 with “Chiseled In Stone”.

Recently Max T. began a new chapter in his career by taking his show on the road. "I have spent my life writing songs for other folks," laughs Barnes. "Now I want to go sing them for the people without the middle man." Often working with his friend and label mate Craig Curtis, the two have criss-crossed the U.S. and even made headway into Europe. "We sing my hits, my dad's hits and great country classics and just be ourselves."

“I love singing “Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes” ‘cause everybody knows it,” Barnes states. “Chiseled in Stone”, “Joe Knows How to Live”, “This Ain't My First Rodeo”... These are the meat and potatoes of country music,” he says. It's safe to say that when Barnes plays live, he doesn't run out of material.  Among his latest hit singles were two Joe Diffie hits, “A Night to Remember” and “Tougher Than Nails” and “Biker Chick” by Jo Dee Messina.

In addition to his songwriting prowess, Barnes has toured with and performed for such artists as Bobby Bare, Shelly West, Linda Davis, Tanya Tucker, The Judds, Reba McEntire and Garth Brooks.
