Lesson 362: God's Law: Blessings & a Map
Before we trusted in Christ, the Law condemned us. The Law listed reasons we deserved the death penalty. But Christ paid that penalty.
Now the Law is a list of blessings, and a map. It lists all the reasons we can be thankful to God for His forgiveness of all our sins.
And it also guides us as we go forward, on a safe path that honors the Savior we love.
Good parents set loving boundaries to protect their child: “Don’t run with scissors.” God provides His Law, His safe path, out of concern for our good.
Rom.6:20-22 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.
God’s path sets us free from anxiety and danger. Without His guidance, we are slaves to sin.
Only obedience to God’s commands sets us free from shame, worry, emptiness and regret.
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
