Thursday Musical’s
Thursday Morning Artist Series moves to
MacPhail Center for Music

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - Thursday Musical announces a venue change for the Thursday Morning Artist Series. Starting with the 2014-15 concert season, all the Thursday Morning Artist Series concerts will be held in Antonello Hall at MacPhail Center for Music, Minneapolis.

Thursday Musical, one of the oldest arts organizations in the country, was founded in 1892 and has had a long relationship with MacPhail, going back more than 100 years. Mrs. Margaret Gilmore MacPhail, wife of founder William MacPhail, was on the Thursday Musical Board of Directors in 1912.  She and her husband appeared on Thursday Musical programs. In more recent years, Thursday Musical held auditions there as well as some concerts.

“We are really excited to expand and deepen our relationship with MacPhail,” said President Liz Nordling. “Thursday Musical has been searching for a new home for its concerts for many years and there are several reasons why the board has decided to move to MacPhail: the excellent acoustics, beautiful facility, central location, and many nearby restaurants.”

“The work that MacPhail and Thursday Musical has done in the community has long been very important to the musical fabric and vibrancy of the Minneapolis/St. Paul region,” said MacPhail President, Paul Babcock. “It’s wonderful that we are able to now collaborate in a deep way to continue the legacy of supporting and promoting live music performance.”

To celebrate the start of Thursday Musical’s concert season, there will be free admittance for the Thursday Morning Artist Series opening concert Oct. 9, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. preceded by a reception at 9:30 a.m. The concert will feature two artists debuting with Thursday Musical, Will Richardson, cello, and Meghann Schmidt, soprano, in addition to the Kennsonn Trio (Jennifer Kennard, flute, Teresa Richardson, cello, and Mary Jo Gothmann, piano). Also performing is Gabriel Quenneville-Belair, a 2014 Thursday Musical Young Artist Scholarship Competition first place winner in the category of College Piano.
