PAPo 2014 - it just gets better and better!

This year's Annual Plein Air Paintout - the 9th - was a roaring success with painters coming from as far away as Colorado and Virginia as well as Sacramento, southern California and the Bay Area.
Sales were brisk at this year's one-day PAPo South Shore exhibit and sale, too. Paintings are now on display and available for purchase at the Center. Drop by to see the exhibit and to buy works of lasting beauty. Also buy a raffle ticket for 2 paintings by Scott Martin, generously donated by Gerry Long.
Gallery hours:
Thursdays and Fridays 11:00am - 6:00pm;
Saturdays and Sundays 11:00am - 5:00pm.

The show runs from August 8 through September 27.

Abstract painter Adriana Diaz uses unusual texture to add depth and dimension to her artwork.
This is Adriana's first show in Alameda and Frank Bette Center for the Arts is proud to introduce this exciting artist to our fair city.


Eyewise Optometry
2651 Blanding Avenue (in Alameda's Nob Hill Shopping Center).

Seeking a Volunteer Signature Solo Gallery Curator

The job reports to the Gallery Director. Duties include:
  • Seek out artists and keep schedules of the six member artist solo shows in the Signature Gallery.
  • Contact artists to confirm shows, obtain photos of work, artist bios, etc and prepare two months prior to shows.
  • Work with Communications Director on marketing collateral for solo shows at  least six weeks before the show including creating and posting show information.
  • Assist artists to hang shows, as needed, and work with shows' opening receptions on the first Friday of the month.
  • Assist with 2nd Friday artist receptions and hosting committees; work, as needed, with volunteer teams.  
This volunteer position requires approximately one day/8 hours per month.

ARTISTS IN THE HOUSE
Frank Bette Center glass mosaic artist Mela Delgado will hold a free demonstration.
 
Date:  Saturday, August 23
Time: 1:00pm – 2:00pm


Mela Delgado has a BFA from La Escuela des Artes Plasticas in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she grew up. Mela began creating mosaics as a way to release stress from writing her Master's thesis in museum art collections - awarded in 2009.
These are free demos and, as artists demonstrate their creativity, they answer questions, give pointers, and describe any workshops they offer.

Frank Bette Center member artists are encouraged to demonstrate their skills and create an audience and a market for their work via these demos.

Join Bette member artist and instructor Patricia Rodriguez as she demos colorful monotype printing without a press.

Patricia Rodríguez's exhibits include the Museum of Modern Art (NYC), the Smithsonian (Washington, DC), Mexican Fine Arts Museum (Chicago),and  the De Young Museum (San Francisco).
