Early Planning, Teacher Support Boost Summer Learning Programs

"A fundamental problem that continues to plague educators is the achievement gap between low-income and higher income students. In the ongoing search for solutions, one of the more promising approaches is expanding opportunities for learning, particularly in the summer.

The idea is relatively simple: Increase access to summer learning for low-income students, put the brakes on summer learning loss, and in turn, shrink the achievement gap." The question is how to make that happen?

The RAND Corporation  report, Getting to Work on Summer Learning: Recommended Practices for Success, focuses on early planning. For access to the full report, click here

Stay fitUnited with a         Customized Menu

The fitUnited Customized Menu is a series of statements that highlight best practice measures in nutrition and physical activity for children. By taking the survey, an agency or service provider is able to measure themselves against best practices, and identify ways in which they can promote being healthy with their youth. The best practice areas include nutrition in food and beverages and physical activity. The survey will take between 5 and (at most) 10 minutes to complete

Please click here to take a look. Once you complete the survey, a wealth of opportunities become available to you, including potential donations of sports equipment, volunteers to help with potential fitness activities, and more!

Thank you for your commitment to the health of our region's youth!
