Get ready for it folks, today I'm dropping a big bombshell on ya.

(Nope, not pregnant. Sorry to disappoint.)

:: drumroll please ::

Jason and I are moving to San Diego!

Whattttt??? It sounds so weird to finally say that out loud. (Err… in written form. Not necessarily out loud I suppose.)

So how does one decide to pick up and move to another coast? Well, we've been talking about the idea of making a move for a while now. I've practically lived in Jacksonville, FL my entire life, and since our cross-country road trip earlier this year, we've both been itching for a new adventure. Given our lack of anchoring variables right now (ie. no children, work-from-anywhere jobs) we decided that NOW is the perfect time to make a move like this.

Here's another surprising element to our big move: we're planning on living with another couple.

Yep, you read that correctly. After four years of living together just the three of us (Plax included, obviously), if all goes according to plan, we're going in halvesies with two other people crazy enough to live with us, our friends Clay and Julia.

Clay and Julia both work for themselves as well, so ya know, it's just four 20/30-somethings, living in a house in California, all working from home & trying to grow their businesses. (Sounds like the premise of a reality show on some random cable network.)

Will it be a challenge? Sure. But will it be awesome? Absolutely.

Some of you may have noticed that last week I was actually in San Diego… (See where I'm going with this?) Well, that trip was actually a test run of sorts for this big change. We flew out there with our potential roomies, rented an airbnb for a week, and shopped neighborhoods and potential homes to get a feel for what we all want.

The trip was a success and we're definitely moving forward on the move, but the whole trip got me thinking about the topic of big life changes, and it's what I want to talk to you about this week.

***

Whether I've done a good job of sharing this or not, this summer has been a weird one for me. It's been a journey to establish a clear focus for my business and to refine my client process. (Both of which, I'm happy to report, are finally in full swing.)

For weeks now, despite doing my best to build momentum, I've felt the creative part of me in somewhat of a standstill. Why? I keep wondering.

I'm a big believer in the fact that spaces can hold on to the remnants of our emotions long after we've experienced them. Our brains make connections between our moods and the space in which those feelings are felt. It's why places can have such a powerful sense of nostalgia or why creatives probably don't like brainstorming in the same place they do their daily work. Our environments stimulate us.

Well never was that more clear than when I was out in San Diego. Everything felt different there. The landscape, the smell of the air (and the much-appreciated lack of humidity), the pulse of the city - it all felt so foreign and novel to me. Also, being surrounded by our friends throughout the week brought out in me a different side than I've felt in a while. I uncovered a confidence that had been hiding, and it felt amazing to see it come out again.

It left me feeling incredibly hopeful for the change that might happen when we move out there. Without even realizing it, I had become stagnant in a lot of ways. Many of you know that one of my core values is self-evolution. If I'm not changing or moving forward, I feel stifled. This big change in my life is an opportunity to explore a whole new path I'd never imagined. I'm creating for myself an inflection point.

And I know, moving is going to be hard. Logistically it involves a lot of moving parts: selling our house, selling our stuff vs. moving it across the country, making new friends, learning to live with someone else again, being separated from our families for a while. There are a ton of reasons to feel resistance or to feel overwhelmed by this big change. But we're pressing on knowing that this move will literally change our lives. No one can swoop in and offer us an opportunity like this - we have to create it ourselves.

And the same goes for you.

I'm not saying you have to move half-way around the country to make a positive change in your life.

All I'm saying is...

If you're feeling stuck or stifled, it's up to YOU to do something about it.  twitter

As the saying goes:

"If you want something you've never had, you must be willing to do something you've never done."

It's as simple as that.

If you're feeling stagnant, or you're in desperate need of an adventure to push you in a way you haven't felt, YOU have to be the one to make that happen.

This week I challenge you to think of one way you can change your own life.

It doesn't have to be big. It could be finally deciding to sign up for that gym membership. Or asking that girl/guy out. Or emailing that entrepreneur or artist you admire and asking them for advice.

It's just about owning your life.

As my friend AJ Leon teaches, you have the power to write your own story. Make it the one that you'd want to read.

Have an awesome week, friends.
