Cathy Pelter's "Random Moments" and
Stephen Dobson's "West Coast Reflections"
August 22 - September 16, 2014
Cathy Pelter’s exhibit, “Random Moments,” consists of pieces inspired by random moments of shadow and light, a facial expression, a path in the forest, lovers in the city, a curtain blowing in the wind or whatever scene beckons to be explored with her paints and brushes. She currently utilizes an impressionist style with watercolour or acrylic mediums to capture the essence of her feelings. The process of creating a painting gives Cathy the opportunity to savour such random moments.
Stephen Dobson’s exhibit, “West Coast Reflections,” offers pieces that are more driven by landscapes, marine work and figurative subjects that are all based on scenes from the West Coast of British Columbia. Read more...

Fraser Valley Watercolour Society Presents
"Doing Our Own Thing - Together"
September 19 - October 14, 2014
Opening Reception: September 21, 1 - 4PM
Medium: Watercolour Paintings
Several years ago, a group of artist friends got together to paint in watercolour. They met on a regular basis, and from this group, the Fraser Valley Watercolour Society was born. Everyone was encouraged to paint whatever they liked, in whatever style suited them - portraits, landscapes, still life, florals, nature or abstract in the mode of photo real, impressionism or something totally new - as long as it was in watercolour and as long as they enjoyed it! Now, twenty-five years later, we are still at it - DOING OUR OWN THING - TOGETHER!
Submissions are now being accepted from visual artists to exhibit work at the Kariton Art Gallery in 2015. Submissions in all mediums including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, woodcarving, pottery and more will be accepted until September 29, 2014, and individuals and groups based in the Fraser Valley region are invited to apply. Founded in 2009, Culture Days is a non-profit organization dedicated to building a national network of cultural connections devoted to providing Canadians with opportunities to participate in, and appreciate, all forms of arts and culture. Through an annual three-day national celebration each September, hundreds of thousands of artists and cultural organizations in hundreds of cities and towns come together and invite Canadians to participate in free interactive and “behind the scenes” activities to discover their cultural spirit and passion.
This year, several organizations throughout Abbotsford are banding together to produce a diverse range of activities for the public to enjoy. From acting workshops, dancing lessons, cartoon drawing and more, be sure to drop by one of the participating organizations after September 12 and grab a Culture Days Abbotsford Activity Passport to collect stamps for the chance to win prizes! Sponsored by the Abbotsford Arts Council in partnership with Globe Printers.
Several non-profit organizations in Abbotsford will be collectively hosting both a Council Townhall and a Mayoral Debate on Tuesday, October 21st and Thursday, October 23rd, respectively. The event will focus on three key areas: arts & culture, the environment, and social services. The Council Townhall will afford residents to ask one, 30-second question to a specific candidate; the Mayoral Debate will consist of questions prepared by the organizing committee, which will be asked by a moderator.
Both events will be held at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium with doors opening at 6:30pm and proceedings beginning at 7:00pm. Both evenings will end at approximately 9:30pm. The Arts Council will send email and social media updates as we receive more information.
