LATE SUMMER MASTERS PROGRAMS
Two options for masters looking to tune up their technique:
  • Nereid Head Coach Boris Roque Alvarez will offer a five-day masters technique program August 24-28. This program is intended to improve technique—not conditioning—and will include video presentations and discussions as well as on-water coaching. Maximum of eight participants. Rowers must have at least two years’ rowing experience. Sessions run: Sunday, 9 to 11 am and Monday to Thursday, 6 to 8 pm. The cost is $125.
  • Coach Clemens Reinke will offer early morning coached rows in September and October. Session 1 runs September 3-29, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 6 to 7 am. Session 2 runs October 1-22, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 6:30 to 7:30 am. Cost for each session is $175.
Contact Bonnie Pugel at bjpugel@comcast.net to indicate your interest.

FREIMARCK DAY SEPT 6
To mark the service and dedication of former Nereid member and board president George Freimarck, the club is naming the new Empacher 2x in his honor. All members and Friends of George are invited to join in a christening ceremony on Saturday, September 6 at 11 a.m. Please come wish George well and say hello to fellow club members.

NEW MEMBERS
Welcome to our latest members: Linda Kao, Jacqueline Tiacoh, Tonguc Yaman, Gaelle Breton and Christina Won.  Looking forward to rowing with you!

NEW CAMERAS
Thanks to Erik King, the boathouse now has a series of several cameras monitoring the club house, the boat bays and the outdoor storage trees. These cameras will help assure the security of the club and the fleet!  Thanks Erik.

CONGRATS TO BOAT DRIVERS
Let’s hear it for the dozen Nereid members and coaches who successfully received their New Jersey Boat Safety Certification after taking a two-day course at the boathouse in July.

THANKS CONSTANCE
Many thanks to Constance Gill for hosting a club summer fete on 19 July.  It was a beautiful evening of good conversation, and, needless to say, great food!

RIVER CLEAN-UP NEWS
The public comment period on the Lower Passaic River clean-up plan set to close August 20. Written comments may be submitted to the EPA at: PassaicLower8MileComments.Region2@epa.gov.
And check out this Passaic River photo essay on www.nj.com.

SOUTHBOUND BAN REMAINS
Please note that the ban on rowing south of the Route 3 Bridge is still in place as we have not been able to install hazard markers around the River Mile 10.9 site yet. The board is working hard to resolve this as quickly as possible. Thanks for your patience and cooperation.

BRICK CAMPAIGN
It’s your last chance to support Nereid, beautify the club grounds, and set your love of rowing in stone (well, in brick)! Nereid’s ongoing brick campaign will come to a close in a few weeks. These bricks will be used for a walkway at the entrance of the club. We are still looking for 100 percent participation from all Nereid members and juniors—so if you didn’t yet buy a brick, please do so! Bricks come in three sizes, ranging from $100-$500, with prices slightly higher with a graphic included. We have many great graphics along with logos for Nereid, Montclair High School, and Head of the Passaic Regatta. We can also upload other images if you want to use your own. Click here to buy!
