Register today for the Advanced Biofuels Course

Just a few spots remain for BioFuelNet’s online Advanced Biofuels Course, which resumes September 2nd, 2014.  The course is designed to accommodate busy schedules – participants log in and participate whenever they have the time. We’re pleased to introduce Caitlin Henderson-Toth as our Teaching Assistant for this semester. She was a student in the January 2014 session and helped us fine tune the course to bring you an even better experience this year. See Caitlin’s introductory video here.

Seeking input for planning BioFuelNet's Phase II 

Current grants under BFN Phase I expire in March 2015, and we’re gathering input on what our priorities should be in  Phase II (April 2015 – March 2017). More information and the general objectives of the Phase II restructuring can be found here.
 
BFN’s Board is seeking advice from the Platforms & Themes, the Research Management Committee, the International Scientific Advisory Board as well as the SEES group for the planning of Phase II.

You can also provide your input by filling out this survey. Your feedback will help us set the network’s future goals and vision!
Third BioFuelNet Success Story Released 

We’re proud to release our third success story: Novel Reactor Cuts Waste to the Bone. BioFuelNet researchers Franco Berruti and Cedric Briens of the Institute for Chemical and Fuels from Alternative Resources (ICFAR) at Western University, explain how their mechanically fluidized reactor improves on current pyrolysis technology. This novel reactor is on its way towards commercialization, and has great potential for smaller farms and operations. Read all about it here.

IEA Task Force releases new report

BioFuelNet's Jack Saddler co-authored a brand new report from the International Energy Agency's Task Force 39, entitled "The Potential and Challenges of Drop-in Biofuels". The report is an assessment of technical approaches being developed and an overview of anticipated challenges to large scale commercialization of “drop-in” biofuels technologies.
BioFuelNet publishes op-ed in the Hill Times 

On August 11th, BioFuelNet’s op-ed article was published in The Hill Times, Canada’s politics and government newsweekly. The article highlights the unique opportunities for the Canadian Armed Forces to drive innovation in biofuels technologies. A clean energy strategy makes sense from a military standpoint!

Travel Awards: Submit your claims!

If you are BioFuelNet Highly Qualified Personnel (HQP) with an approved travel award and you have not yet submitted your receipts for reimbursements, we strongly encourage you to do it ASAP!

We especially urge the HQP who received travel grants to attend BioFuelNet’s Advanced Biofuels Symposium in May to submit their expense reports. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact us.

Now is the time to submit your abstracts for Paperweek Canada 2015! This key Canadian gathering for the advancement of the pulp and paper industry, takes place February 2-5 2015 at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal. All mill personnel, suppliers, researchers and experts are invited to submit their latest work for presentation in the technical program.
