Summer is giving way to autumn!

GourmetQuilter News

Quilting is just so good for you!

It has been a busy time with the Festival of Quilts and also a visit to Taunton to meet the Somerset County Quilters, it was great to meet so many of you.
So now the theory is to have a break! not sure how to do that, or what it even means! A break from quilting? Nooooo! what would I do with myself??!!

However, things have slowed down a little as we negotiate the River Thames in our boat and enjoy the late summer.

This time of year, on this side of the world, brings to mind the warmth of the autumn colours and the fact that we need to be thinking of keeping warm for the winter, so a warm, autumn-toned quilt is probably the answer!

Gifts are always in season so if a large quilt seems a little daunting, then some small projects like bags, mini mitts or other small delights are a delicious way to keep the interest going! There is a link to a video to make little fabric gift bags down below, so the gift can be complete with its own bag!

Welcome to those of you who have just signed up to receive this newsletter, it is great to have you.

The video tutorials will be posted on my blog or can be viewed on my YouTube Channel. Thank you so much for enjoying these and some of you are leaving wonderful comments which encourage me to do more!

Thinking of making a start on some gift making?

here is a small suggestion!
That Mini Mitt

These delightful mini oven mitts make great gifts! They are quick and easy to make and are always well received. They are just the thing for holding on to those hot pots and plates and can be made to suit any decor! Using some heat resistant batting means they keep the fingers cool!

The pattern is available to purchase and download here.

Lime Splice

Makes a quilt approx
60" x 70"

This is a great quilt for using some novelty squares and turning it into an “I-Spy” type of quilt, or simply to use a single delicious fabric for the squares. A tempting stripe for the sashing helps to set the scene.

The pattern for Lime Splice is available to purchase and download on my website here.

That Bitty Bag:
This pattern makes a fun small bag and uses just some small amounts of fabric with a little applique to make them fun.
The bag shown is approx. 8" high x 5" wide and is just the right size!

Doll Pattern ReView

Caitlyn Caterpillar:
Approx 6" long.

Caitlyn Caterpillar is a delightful friend to have! She uses fabric circles drawn up into "yo-yo's" and is set with wire and beads so that she is "pose-able".
The pattern for Caitlyn Caterpillar is available to purchase and download on my website here.

GourmetQuilter Travels

We are now traveling on the River Thames, currently moored at Abingdon, near Oxford. Abingdon is the most interesting and picturesque place! It claims to be the oldest, continuously inhabited town in England, having evidence of habitation since approx. 700BC, now that is a loooong time!
A quick visit to Oxford was very rewarding with the wonderful architecture all around and I think requires a bit longer to look at! Hopefully we will get back there some time. Of course, nothing is really quick as it took us about 2 1/2 hours to travel approx. 8 miles (approx. 13 km) on the boat, a journey that takes about 20 minutes in the car! However, the Thames is delightful, lots of things to look at and always some birds around.

The weather has been a delightful guessing game! warm and sunny, cool and breezy, wet and rainy.........sometimes all within an hour!!
I have been able to continue quilting on the boat, as what would life be without quilting?

The Festival of Quilts 2014

I was thrilled to have been a stall holder at the Festival of Quilts 2014, held at the NEC, Birmingham, UK, again this year. As always, the show was great, the exhibition amazing and the merchants offering irresistible delights!

Somerset County Quilters,
Taunton, Somerset, UK

We had a great summer evening picnic at Taunton in early August, thanks for having me for such a delicious evening! I have been spoilt lately, meeting so many quilters!
