Welcome to Martha Kisling's Creative Painting!

I am always full of ideas for my artwork but have to balance my creative time with keeping up with my website, painting blog, Etsy Shop and Facebook art page. This month, I started updating my boards on Pinterest to reflect more of my artwork, inspiration for paintings and my life as an artist. Please feel free to check out all of my  Pinterest boards here!

Be sure to visit my blog to see past postings and more of my art and you can also subscribe to this newsletter if you haven't already. Check out past newsletters here.

Our daughter Lisa was home for a few days before she headed back to Kansas City to start her second year of medical school so we decided to enjoy a beautiful Colorado day in the mountains. Here we are with Todd, using the belly boats to tool around the lake and get a little fishing in - too much fun!

Acrylic & Collage

The goal for my new 2014 Creative Corner has been to try something new each month - different techniques, new mediums, mixed media, fun colors - anything goes. I painted these poppies with a palette knife and thick acrylic paint and then made the entire background black. I decided to break up the space into rectangular shapes and painted some of them with yellow ochre. Tissue paper with a black and white design and a red checkered pattern was collaged in several of the larger rectangular spaces and then I used thick, black paint for lines around the flowers, stems and background shapes to add to the three dimensional look. A very fun project!

I try to post to my blog several times a week to keep everyone updated on my art. One of the fun things about a blog is that you can view present and past paintings by topic or category - see all of my Sky posts here

I would love it if you checked out my Facebook Creative Painting page!

Pinterest
My Art Boards

If you have not heard of Pinterest yet it is a visual discovery tool where you can collect ideas for decorating, cooking, photography, art, travel, etc  and 'pin' them on to your own boards. It is like tearing out ideas from magazines and putting them on bulletin boards but it is all online. It is so much fun and a great way to find ideas and inspiration for your art. You can check out all of my boards for watercolor, mixed media, color, fashion and holidays here!

Weekly Classes
July White Picket Fence

The focus of one of our weekly classes in July was to paint flowers with a white picket fence. I already had the start of a painting with roses and leaves so I decided to just add the fence in the background. I used shades of green to paint the negative space around the pickets to create the illusion of a white fence.

I love painting big, colorful tropical flowers like theses hibiscus.
