UICC is proud to announce the Call for Proposals for the 2015 American Cancer Society Beginning Investigators Fellowship (ACSBI)
WHAT
- 12 month international fellowship with an award value of USD 50,000
AIMS
- To foster a bi-directional flow of knowledge and innovation between countries
- To support the promotion of cancer control in developing countries
- To advance the academic career development of beginning cancer investigators
WHO
Beginning investigators or clinicians:
- Who possess a terminal, advanced degree in their field
- Who hold an academic university or hospital position with an explicit commitment to return to their home institute
- In the early phases of their career as an independent investigator and no longer under research mentoring
WHY
Former Grantees report:
- Increased knowledge and research skills
- Publications with Host mentors resulting from ACSBI Fellowship research
- Mentoring received was extremely important for subsequent professional development
- Increased ability to obtain research funding upon return home
HEAR IT FROM A CURRENT FELLOW
Dr. Parisa Karimi from Iran is carrying out an ACSBI at the Johns Hopkins University in the United States on the role of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon Ingestion as a Risk Factor for Esophageal Cancer.

NEWS FROM THE WORKSHOP PROGRAMME
APPLY TO APCASOT
Text: The Asia-Pacific Cancer Society Training Grant programme (APCASOT) assists voluntary cancer societies located in the Asia-Pacific region to build their cancer control capacity. One week training programs are offered in Brisbane, Australia and Mumbai, India and address a range of topics including fundraising, prevention and early detection, cancer support services, tobacco control, advocacy, and more.

MEET THE TEAM
There have been some changes here at UICC so we want to take the opportunity to introduce the new team. Riccardo Lampariello is now Head of Global Training and Education and is responsible for the strategic direction of the programme. Marina Teahon, Grants Specialist, and Tereza Dvorakova, Fellowships Assistant, run the Fellowships and Workshop grants calls.
