August 2014

Register for Sunday School on Rally Day or Online

The Sunday School program is back for the fall beginning September 7. You can register your child for Sunday School right now on our website or in person on Rally Day, August 24. This year’s circus-themed Rally Day will be full of fun events for everyone, including our “Greatest Bible Stories of All Times” challenge! Join us during the 10 o'clock hour for a wonderful welcome back to church.

Teach This Year!

New teachers are needed this year to help in our Sunday School classrooms. Teaching is a great way to meet other parents and build community. There are all levels of commitment, from once a month to weekly, and you don’t need to be a Biblical scholar to serve! The lessons are fun and interactive. Visit the website to learn more about our program. Contact Lisa Puccio to talk about how you can get involved.

The Parenting Class — Asking Better Questions

The late family therapist, rabbi, and presidential adviser Edwin Friedman frequently suggested that the solution to all of life’s nagging problems was not finding better answers, but rather asking better questions. Using Friedman's famous Fables as a jumping-off point, we will explore the classic emotional traps that parents fall into and how we might gain some critical distance on ourselves and our families in order to break-free of the gridlock that clogs our family system.

The Parenting Class meets during the 10 o'clock Education Hour beginning on Sunday, September 7.

The Mission of the Children’s Ministry Council …

… is to ensure that our children feel they are a valuable part of the Cathedral congregation and to support them as they grow in their faith. Council members help plan the parish events for children and families, support the Sunday school and Nursery programs, and nurture relationships among families at the Cathedral.

The members of the council are Kristin Avery, Alex Bentlif, Judson Crowder, David Dowdy, Anne Furse (chair), Kaki Grubbs (vestry), Kristin Johnson, Jim Maloney, Scottie McCord, Jen Moss, Lyman Paden, Sarah Wallace, and Lisa Puccio (staff).
