As you may be aware, the ocean import/export community has been dealing with the daily challenge of securing truck power in North America along with port congestion, chassis shortages, rising costs, increased regulations, etc. These challenges are inter-related and have been especially severe at the nation’s busiest ports of Long Beach/Los Angeles and New York/New Jersey. Severe delays and waiting time are now occurring due to the compounding issues, with no end in sight. Here at CargoTrans we are equally impacted with our own operations, which have affected our ability to maintain a high level of service for port drayage. For example, many of our import clients were accustomed to having their containers delivered the next day after they were discharged and fully available. Today, the trucker’s objective is to simply pull containers within the allotted free time.
During this time we continue to work closely with our truckers to try and find the best solutions to handle all our customers’ requirements with minimal cost increases. Unavoidably, there will be an increase in drayage and chassis fees, which will be announced within the next few days. Unfortunately, we do not expect any significant improvements in the near future, but please be assured that we will make every effort to maintain a quality service.
