NFCN SOFTBALL - Sunday Night!
Sunday evening, August 10, come out and watch and fellowship with the NFCN softball teams, their families, as well as all the other teams that we play.  We will be providing FREE hot dogs, water, and chips for everyone that comes out.  This will be a great time to watch some awesome softball, fellowship with your church family, as well as fellowship with the other teams and their families!
So bring your lawn chair and your entire family out to Two Rivers Park in Donelson, TN to support the NFCN softball teams.  Games begin at 6:00pm.

This past Sunday morning we experienced several moving moments.  We prayed over Andrew Blier on his last Sunday before departing for Parris Island, South Carolina and the United States Marines.  Pray for Andrew!  We celebrated at the altar with Dr. Richard Parrott the reality that the Tennessee District Assembly and the Board of General Superintendents unanimously restored the Elder Credential to Dr. Parrott.  He is an ordained elder among us!

Last week, the new NFCN Theology Team met for the first time.  It includes Drs. Dan Spross, Mike Jackson and Richard Parrott (all Trevecca Professors); Dr. Bruce Oldham and Pastor Ulmet.  This team will be working with Pastor Ulmet and our teaching pastors as we develop future sermon series and Sunday School curriculum.  It was an energetic and exciting meeting.  THANKS TO THESE FAITHFUL PEOPLE in our congregation who are willing to GIVE OF THEMSELVES to the work of God here at NFCN.

Way to go  John Henry Knotts!  John Henry played on the Goodlettsville Ten Year Old Little League All-Stars.  The team finished as runner up at the Southeast Region Tournament of State Champions last week!

Congratulations to Christy Ulmet, junior at Trevecca Nazarene University, for having an article on the Trevecca Farm published in the newest NCM (Nazarene Compassionate Ministries) Magazine.  Copies were passed out on Sunday evening.

Special thanks to Buz Harrison, our MEDIA director, for his assistance in putting together Sunday evening's presentation on the Kenya Partnership!  It was a moving set of pictures and video clips and all were able to experience what we are involved in in Kenya!

I AM RENEWED today after a great weekend of Worship at NFCN.  Here's three reasons why:

OUR MILLENNIAL PASTORS - When we as a church have such committed, vision-driven and mature young leaders as Matt Dunlap, Andrea Garcia, Scott Oldham and Matt Taylor serving and leading amongst us, how can we not have a future at NFCN!  We are meeting, dreaming and praying about our future in these days, and we are encouraged because of leaders like these.  Pray for them - encourage them - and thank them for leading among us!

OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH KENYA - Over 160 gathered in Heritage Chapel Sunday evening to hear and see the "Kenya Gender-Based Violence Partnership Story."  What energy there was in that room!  In listing all of the organizations involved in the massive effort responding to human desperation in Kenya, I failed to mention some of them!  From large international to local, here are the principal groups all working together and with NO restriction, indeed encouragement, of our Christian message in Kenya:  The United Nations, UNICEF, the International Rescue Committee, IsraelAID, Africa Region Church of the Nazarene, Africa Nazarene University, East Africa Field Office of the Church of the Nazarene, Nazarene Compassionate Organization (Ministries) of East Africa, Lodwar Church of the Nazarene, Lodwar Regional Hospital and the Turkana Wellness Center for Women, Wings of Hope Center for Women, Crossroads Church of the Nazarene in Chandler, Arizona, and NFCN!  And the "glue" that holds all of this together?  Jim Copple and Strategic Applications International!  We are indeed a fortunate people to have this unusual opportunity to impact lives and situations 8000 miles away.  Praise the Lord!

OUR TEENS AND PARENTS - this past Sunday, after Sunday School, Karen and I walked through a gymnasium packed with full tables of teens and families, as Pastor Matt Taylor led this annual gathering.  I saw there families with roots generations deep at NFCN, and I saw brand new families who have only come to NFCN through our Recreation Outreach ministry in the past year.  I saw diversity of race, background and economic level.  I saw families from the suburbs, Nashville and East Nashville.  I looked full into the face of our present ministry and our future hope, and I came away smiling.  Our youth ministry looks and feels different than just a few years ago, and that means we are reaching new people and families.

Three reasons to rejoice this week.  I hope you're rejoicing with me as we prepare to gather on Homecoming Sunday this weekend!  Blessings!  Pastor Ulmet
