Pick your favorite horse

Hello, I hope you are doing well!

I need some help from you in deciding what my next sculpture will be. I have created several lions, a bear and a dog.  My wife, Karen, says I should sculpt a horse.  But as everything with me, it's more complicated than that.  What kind of horse?  What is it doing?  Why is it doing it?  I like playful sculptures, but I also like dramatic ones.  So I really can't decide which direction to go.

A good friend of Karen's, Simran, has a beautiful horse named DaVinci.  He is a trained jumper.  Simran and her daughter ride him every day, and take him through his paces around the course and over the hurdles.  It is a lot of work!

Simran graciously allowed me to take pictures of him for reference material, and boy did he put on a show!  Mind you, I said that he was a well disciplined horse and a great hurdle jumper.  But when they let him out in a pasture, he let it all loose.  That horse can play!  He immediately began racing around the enclosure.  As I stood just outside of the low fence, he raced past me, leaving mere inches between us.  I think he was trying to find out how close he could get to my big camera lens without hitting it.  Then he began prancing and bucking, enjoying his freedom.

The end of the show was the best.  He had just been washed and brushed before we arrived.  Horse people know what naturally comes next.  A good roll in the dirt!  Watching a 1000 pound animal rolling on it's back like a puppy dog is quite a sight to behold!

Later he showed off his training dramatic side, jumping hurdles while Simran's daughter rode him, and standing tall with pride and power.  Notice how she is not using a full saddle!  She is quite a rider.

It was quite a treat to watch DaVinci show off his playful and business sides.  In order to get some inspiration for my next sculpture, I made some sketches from the photographs I took, but I need your help in deciding which to use for a sculpture.  I won't necessarily use the exact pose from the photographs, but they show qualities that I want to highlight.

Please take a look at the drawings and vote for the ones you like the best.  You can rate all of them or just the one(s) you like.  Any comments or ideas are welcome too!

                                                                                             Thanks,
                                                                                             Terrence

Paris cuddles with her big brother

Over the weekend Karen spotted out cat, Paris, cuddled up to my sculpture, Play Bow.  Paris had good reason to do so.  She grew up with the inspiration for the sculpture, our Cocker Spaniel Sonny.  As a kitten, she looked up to him like a big brother.  He was a calm dog and tolerated her sleeping next to him. She even thought she was a dog for a while, playing fetch by chasing thrown balls and bringing them back every time.  It is nice to see that she still appreciates him.
