First Unitarian Church of Baltimore!
Events for Wednesday, August 6
through Tuesday, August 12
Dear <<First Name>>!

I've enjoyed the relative coolness of the past week, but there are a few hard working laborers who have really appreciated it as they have been rebuilding the granite wall and wrought iron fence damaged last year by an errant taxicab. Sean, Fernando and William have worked hard to move the heavy granite stones out of place where they could be cleaned. They cleared out the site where the wall was to be rebuilt. They rebuilt the wall making slight modifications to keep the fence true. And now they are replacing bricks that were upturned by the force of the cab's collision and the overgrowth of our old American Holly, now removed.

I've posted pictures on the church's Facebook page. I'm not sure that they capture my excitement, but I hope they show a little of the pride of the crew which is laboring for us and our church. Many thanks to Buildings and Grounds--and especially Al Bryan and Judy Mayer--for overseeing this important work.

See you in church!

Help Wanted

We are in great need for a person to do the shopping for Our Daily Bread, ideally on a regular basis. It's our next turn to cook Saturday, August 30th and then, not until November. It would be necessary for the shopper(s) - and it might be fun for a couple to do this, to visit two stores and buy the supplies which are heavy and bulky, so muscles are needed. Then the supplies have to be brought to the church at a time that there's someone to admit the shoppers to the kitchen  to put them away.

It's quite an undertaking, and Al Bryan has been doing all of this for years. Al is unable to continue doing this, but is willing to share his expertise and shopping hints. First U has a long history, over twenty years, in serving guests at Our Daily Bread, and it is our hope to continue doing so, but we need help! Please contact me if you can.

From the Social Action Clearinghouse:
Thank You from Our Homeless Neighbors

Thanks to your generosity, dozens of our homeless neighbors have new shirts, shorts, socks, shoes and hats that will help them keep cool this summer.  And special thanks to the Kinn Bequest Committee, which provided funds for the bottled water we distributed this past Friday to the homeless men and women at St. Vincent de Paul's weekly dinner.

Although it's been a cool summer by Baltimore standards, we're likely to experience at least some hot and humid weather during the next month or so.  If you have any additional items to help our homeless neighbors stay cool, please drop them off at the SAC table during coffee hour.

We thank you for being a beacon of hope for our homeless neighbors!

From the Social Action Clearinghouse:
Seeking New Change for Change Nominations

Priority will be given to organizations addressing poverty and homelessness in Baltimore.  To receive a nomination form, e-mail socialaction@firstunitarian.net or stop by the SAC table during coffee hour
