Satellite Shop Open at MakerLabs

Tools are now available to rent at MakerLabsWe reported in our last newsletter that a second inventory would be opening up this summer at 196 Kingsway in Mount Pleasant. We have since moved in our inventory, laser cut ourselves the best sign ever, and started loaning out tools. Just like at our Commercial Street shop, only members of our co-op can take out tools. Good news for prospective members is that the helpful MakerLabs staff can set you up with a membership on the spot. This location is open Wednesday to Sunday from 12-9pm.

Board of Directors Position Available

We have an opening on our Board for a new Director of Volunteers! With our amazing former Director of Volunteers moving to Nova Scotia, we have a spot available for someone new. Do you have a great rapport with people? Are you highly organized? Would you like to contribute your knowledge and energy to the VTL? Duties include hiring and training new volunteers, attending board meetings and events, and helping out at the shop. Apply now! We would love to meet you.

Jam at the Jam: Aug. 9 + 10

Join Sparkle & Sparkle Co. for a weekend of urban intervention!  Jam at the Jam is a revitalization weekend taking place on August 9th and 10th in the laneway behind the Toast Collective, between 16th and Carolina Streets. On the 9th, everyone is invited to help with beautifying the alley by removing garbage and cleaning up. On the 10th, there will be a family-friendly block party from 2-8pm. The VTL will be contributing some of the tools and the efforts of our dedicated Board members, Brian and Steven. See you there!

Thanks to our Donors!

The VTL was recently gifted a large collection of tools that included some beautiful heritage hand tools. These vintage items are on display in our shop on Commercial Street. The conventional tools also donated by Ms. E. Huntsman are now in our inventory and ready to use. Thank you for your kind donation! If you have tools you wish to donate, please contact manager@vancouvertoollibrary.com with a list and, if possible, pictures of the tools.

Shop Volunteers Wanted

We need volunteers for regular fall shifts! Shop volunteers are asked to commit to a shift twice per month. All volunteers will be fully trained and have the opportunity to be involved in a community of makers and builders through free workshops, in-shop interaction, and events. No tool experience is necessary but it will be gained! Submit an intake form if you're interested and we'll be in touch soon.
