Ten years after its first launch, Michael Young has re-released his ground breaking PXR5 watch - this time in stainless steel and in four different finishes.

Originally designed in 2004, shortly after Young moved to Hong Kong, the PXR5 started out as a fun project that Young did for himself - simply to create the kind of watch he wanted to wear. In contrast to the elaborate time pieces that were fashionable at the time, Young paired back the design to create a functional, hard-wearing and uniquely affordable watch. It was one of the first independent watch productions and created a new market for design-led timepieces.

The PXR5's sleek minimalism immediately garnered attention and sales began organically. Then Young brought a batch of the watches with him to SuperStudio in Milan with the intention of selling them to retailers, but they were all purchased directly by customers.

"We took 500 watches and we sold them all," comments Young, "The queues were blocking the corridors. We had six or seven people selling the watch constantly."

After that PXR5 sales exploded and it continued to sell well for a number of years until Young decided that the studio wasn't committed to retail. However the studio continued to receive multiple enquiries every month about the PXR5, so eventually a decade on, Young decided to put the PXR5 back into production with ODM, manufacturers of the cult Hacker watch, keeping all the iconic DNA of the original but this time in stainless steel.

PXR5 comes in four finishes:
Brushed Stainless steel with a Blue strap
Polished stainless with a grey strap.
Black coating with black strap.
Gold IP plating with Brown strap.

The easily changed nylon and velcro strap now also comes in Midnight Navy Blue. Other colours will be available throughout 2014.
