IMBA's Trail Care Crew Visit, Oct. 23rd - Oct. 26th

Klamath Trails Alliance is excited about being selected by the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) to host a four day “Trail Care Crew” visit this coming fall from Thursday, October 23rd to Sunday, October 26th in Klamath Falls.

IMBA’s Trail Care Crew offers workshops to mountain bike and multi-use trail clubs, land managers and communities. The two-person team of professional trail builders teaches groups how to build and maintain sustainable trails, resolve trail management challenges and run effective advocacy organizations.

The event is directed by IMBA, sponsored by Subaru, Trek and Yakima and offered to trail clubs such as ours through a grant application valued at $5,000.

On Friday, October 24th the workshop is called “Better Living Through Trails” and explores the positive relationships between communities and their trail systems.  Trails as community assets can improve quality of life and livability in a community for both the biking and non-biking members and can attract significant tourism dollars in addition to increasing overall quality of life.  With statistics and case studies, participants will learn how to turn a quality community trail system into a destination trail system, and learn how to effectively market a trail system.

IMBA’s highly-respected Trail Building School is held on Saturday, October 25th.  The crew teaches sustainable trail construction and maintenance via a classroom session, followed by hands-on trail work.

Both events are free and open to the general public.  Registration is open for the Trail Building School on Saturday and the "Better Living Through Trails" workshop will open soon.

New Tools!

For the past three years, the Klamath Trails Alliance has been using tools borrowed from the Pacific Crest Trail Association and Friends of Moore Park. The KTA Board of Directors approved $1,450 for the purchase of tools for KTA use.

Grant Weidenbach and Dennis Taugher have spent many hours poring over online catalogues and visiting hardware stores in the quest for trail tools for our maintenance crews. They purchased: Pulaskis, McLeods, a variety of grub hoes, adjustable rakes plus loppers and a pole trimmer. Thank you to local businesses Home Depot , which donated $75, and Diamond Home Improvement, which gave $50.
