Take this opportunity to listen to one of the world's best maestro of the bandoneon here in Perth!
Mi Serenata Tango presents NEW MUSICALITY workshops with Maestro Bandoneónist Joaquín Amenábar on the 26th, 27th & 28th September 2014

Maestro Bandoneónist Joaquín Amenábar will return to Perth on Friday 26th September to Sunday 28th September for a series of NEW inspiring and information-packed workshops culminating in his exquisite performance at our Gala Milonga on Saturday 27th September 2014.

Over the past year, Mi Serenata Tango has been asked repeatedly whether we will be hosting Joaquín again in the near future. We had tremendous participation in the workshops so much so that we had to find a larger venue at the eleventh hour!

Hence, we were very delighted when Joaquín offered to visit Perth again for a further series of workshops while on his way to Tasmania! How lucky were we!

We are undoubtedly very honoured and proud to host this world renowned Maestro for the second time in a year. Joaquín really does not require any introduction from us.

Joaquin touched all of our souls last year with his style of teaching, his knowledge on musicality, dancing to the orchestras and of course his intermittent playing of the Bandoneon at workshops whenever he needed to illustrate a point.

Do not miss this opportunity to learn with this Maestro whose worldwide popularity has also seen him visiting our shores many times over the years.

Registrations are now opened. Dateline for registrations is Monday 22nd September 2014 or earlier, if maximum capacity is reached before the dateline, so get in early!

Book & CD: Once again,  Joaquín will have his book & CD's, which were a sell-out last year at the workshops.
Latin American Film Festival

Mi Serenata Tango are proud supporters of the Latin American Film Festival and was invited for the second year in a row to open the festival on Saturday 6th September.

What a fabulous night and experience it was to open the latin film festival! Thank you to the event coordinator Raffa Baro for inviting us to exhibit tango to the audience and your professional setup for the night. Our good friends Nick and Kate for taking photos and videos of us dancing and joining us on the floor as well. Last but not least to everyone who lent us their time, support and enthusiasm and participating in one of the most memorable nights in tango. Thank u to our students who were undaunted by the task put to them and with ease rose over and beyond the challenge: Brandon, Verity, Joanna, Martin, Ann, Aswin, Tulia and our good friends Sharon and Bob and the rest of the Mi Serenata Tango team, Raffa, Fabian, Sam and Sonya. Each of us on the floor had a ball and travelled further along on our tango journey. Our practice of the cabaceo worked well as we took to the floor. Our invitation to Juan Rando to join us on the floor was well received as he gladly took to the floor. Thank u. It's moments like these which makes us believe that a community can work well together with a little goodwill and a little less territorial. Thank u all. Sabrina xxx

Meet our DJ for Saturday 27th September 2014

Our DJ for the night is Pierre Candelaria

Below is an excerpt from the DJ  & dancer himself:

My first exposure to Argentine Tango was at a Wednesday milonga at the Perth Tango Club (PTC), Feb 14, 2007. At the invitation of a lady friend I attended what I first thought to be a gathering of old people dancing a boring old dance. As the night wore on I realised that these dancers, despite the simple steps they employed, were having an immense amount of fun. It was an internal type of enjoyment, like a private joke, between the two dancers. I decided I wanted to get me some of that fun. In March I started formal tango lessons with Laura Groombridge at Floreat, and then continued my education with Bruce and Trish Cannon at PTC and later on, with Juan Rando and Amanda Metcalf at JRDA.

I started DJing in the summer of 2009 (Jan) DJing the local practica and the then newly minted Friday tango cafe at the PTC.

My DJing philosophy is simply thus:” keep them dancing tango, this minute, the next tanda, for the whole milonga, in their dreams as they sleep after the milonga, the next month, and five years hence and as far into the future as I can.”Just keep them dancing.

I started out as a very alternative tango DJ but have since grown to love the classics of the golden age of tango as the lock to the key that is close embrace tango dancing. I count as my DJing influences Bruce Cannon, Homer Ladas, John Ellis and countless other DJs both here in Australia and those I have met during my stay in upstate New York. My aim is to encourage and support close embrace dancing to golden age music as it is my experience, having co created a university tango club in the US, that nothing else is as potent as creating long term dancers than this combination.

Mi Serenata is very proud to welcome Pierre back again as our DJ for our upcoming Milonga.
