Reserves win @ Trevor Barker!

Beat Monash Blues in Semi Final

  Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4
Monash Blues 2.3-15 3.4-22 7.7-49 8.9-57
Old Camberwell 3.3-21 10.5-65 12.7-79 17.11-113

On the weekend the Ressies took on Monash Blues at Trevor Barker Oval in Sandringham in the Premier C Reserves Semi Final. The Ressies had not beaten Monash during the season, and the bonus for the boys this weekend was that the Monash Seniors were also playing so they were not in a position to drop players back. The boys did not disappoint and ran out strong winners and will take on PEGS next week.

Preliminary Final vs PEGS
Saturday 6th September 11:45am
@ Casey Fields, 160 Berwick - Cranbourne Road, Cranbourne East

Entry for non-players and officials is $12. Please don't abuse the gate people!

Match Review from Coach Stuart Hillier:

The Ressies final campaign started on a fine, cloudless day on a quality surface at Trevor Barker Reserve. By the end of the first quarter against a 3-4 goal breeze Old Camberwell were leading by 6 points having outscored Monash Blues 3 goals 3 behinds to 2 goals 3 behinds. Jeffers at full forward scored the first goal of the quarter and with some strong play by Young in the middle and our half backline of Toma, Searles & McDonald holding sway we were in a good position to take advantage of the early lead.

Half way through the second quarter it appeared that we had lost the advantage and Old Camberwell were only 12 points up with a strong breeze behind us. The move of Rogers to the centre bounce downs and Needham creating numerous opportunities for the forwards then saw us bang on 5 unanswered goals from the 17 minute mark with one spectacular goal from Young in the centre right on the half time siren. The half time score line saw Old Camberwell with a commanding lead of 43 points being 10 goals 5 behinds to Monash 3 goals 4 behinds

The third quarter was a real arm wrestle and again it was the likes of Matt Cottrell, Young & Needham who kept providing opportunities up forward and our defence including Tom Staynor who held sway. A couple of late goals gave Monash some hope at 3 quarter time. Sadly during this quarter Brad Dean was felled after he had disposed of the ball and dislocated his shoulder. Hopefully “Squid” will recover quickly and be able to put his hand up for selection earlier than expected. At the final break Old Camberwell had a handy 31 point lead and the wind had strengthened to a 4-5 goal breeze.

The final quarter provided a real opportunity for Old Camberwell to close the game out and a 5 goal to 1 quarter ensured this occurred. Jenkins slotted his 4th goal for the game and Jeffers snapped his third from a sharp angle. As had been the case all day the constant hard tackling had really worn down our opposition and the final score line of 17 goals 11 behinds to Monash 8 goals 9 behinds was a credit to the team.

This Saturday we travel to Casey Fields to take on PEGS in a do or die Preliminary final. If we maintain the intensity shown during the 1st Semi Final we have a real opportunity to win this game and book ourselves a spot in the 2014 Grand Final !
