Chapman Valley Budget


The budget overview is available and rate notices have been posted Tuesday 29th July 2014.  All rates are due 2nd September 2014 and if anyone is having financial difficulties, please contact the Shire office, 99205011 to discuss alternative arrangements with either Karen or Katie.  Pay Way is also available to pay by credit card through the website.
  

Community Growth Fund


The Shire of Chapman Valley have just released the new Community Growth Fund for community grants. Small projects can apply for up to $2,000 and larger projects up to $10,000.
Application’s will open on the 30th September 2014, with a closing deadline of 31st October 2014.  Grant criteria and Fact Sheet available now with application forms release on the 30th September on the Shire website.

Chapman Valley Show


Chapman Valley comes alive this weekend at the 65th Chapman Valley Show.  Make sure you visit Valley Funk Factory, brand new interactive activity and entertainment.

Get busy organising your entries and come along to support our local organisations at this years Show!

Gates open for exhibitors from 7am with the official opening by local identity, Trevor Cooper, at 12pm.

Chapman Valley Rural Ambassador

 
A strong group of finalists were part of the Rural Ambassador competition this year, with Chapman Valley's Jeremy Brooks finishing as the Runner Up to Callam Wesley. The five finalists were:
Dustin Michael (Central Group), Callum Wesley (Eastern Group), Leonie Smith (Great Southern Group), Jeremy Brooks (Mid West Group), Jessi Holroyd (South West Group).
Congratulations Jeremy! 

Biodiversity Award

The Shire of Chapman Valley and City of Greater Geraldton won this years award at Local Government Week, For preparing and adopting a final Local Biodiversity Strategy including an Action Plan.
These two Local Governments worked very effectively together to develop a local biodiversity plan for a large area crossing their administrative boundaries.

Midwest Men's Health Rural Communities

Glen Fleeton, Rural Communities Coordinator for Midwest Men’s Health, has been touching base with various Chapman Valley local groups.  Most recently Glen attended the Yuna Farm Improvement Group Annual Field Day giving an insight into the differences between the way a man and a woman’s brain works, as well as some metaphorical analogies on keeping the lights on to avoid darkness.  Glen has visited the Chapman Valley Football Club and Chapman Valley Menshed focusing on the important of health.  For more information on the Midwest Men’s Health Rural Communities program, contact Glen Fleeton.

Sport Scholarships

The Midwest Academy of Sport are now selecting athletes, coaches and officials for 2015 scholarships. Applications are to be submitted online and are open until October 31st. View the athlete benefits package.

Tourism Boost Workshop


Tourism is a dynamic, competitive and a rewarding industry to be in. Tourism BOOST will give your business a competitive edge in this growing marketplace. The workshop is designed as an introduction and refresher course on the tourism industry and is complemented by Tourism Council WA’s eTourism Workshops.  The revised date is 16th September 2014, Irwin Recreation Centre. Farm Business Assessment Scheme
 
The State Government has announced a $500,000 Farm Business Assessment Scheme to assist elgible farm businesses to access professional advice in relation to their business management and financial situation.

Should the farm business assessment and financial plan determine that additional consultancy is required to implement the plan, a further reimbursement grant of up to $5,000 may be claimed.  The total grant funding available under this scheme is up to $10,000 per farm business.

The scheme is voluntary with no obligation to implement recommendations.  It is designed to provide bsuiiness assessment advice and options. Go to these links for more info, application and FAQ

Council Meeting Dates for 2014


The Shire of Chapman Valley hereby gives public notice of its Ordinary Council meeting for 2014:

17 September 2014
15 October 2014
19 November 2014
10 December 2014

Council will meet at 9.00am in the Council Chambers at Nabawa (3270 Chapman Valley Road) on each ordinary meeting date.

SMALL GRANTS FOR RURAL COMMUNITIES

Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal have up to $5,000 available for projects and activities that offer clear public benefit for communities with populations of 10,000 or less, living in small rural and remote locations in Australia.
Deadline: 26th September 2014.

CADBURY COMMUNITY GRANTS

Cadbury Fundraiser provides up to $1,200 to support a wide range of community-based projects that increase social inclusion and enhance community engagement in Australia.
Deadline 28th November 2014.

FOUNDATION FOR CHILDREN GRANTS

To fund research programs and a wide range of other projects designed specifically to improve the health, welfare and well-being of the future of Australia - our children.  Grants can be between $50,000 - $80,000 per year.
Deadline is 30th September 2014, although a 2 page summary expression of interest must be sent first.  Click here for more information.


COMMUNITY LITTER GRANTS

$5000 is available for local area projects individuals, communities and organisations projects which make lasting changes to reduce litter and change littering behavior.
 
The grant program encourages  litter prevention incorporating education, infrastructure and enforcement as key elements.

Ambulance Call Out Procedure


THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW /THINGS TO DO IF YOU ARE RINGING FOR AN AMBULANCE

RING 000

1. You need to give your name and contact number.

2. You need to give the location of the casualty/accident (location needs to include the road number, road, nearest cross street, town/area and nearest ambulance centre, i.e. Chapman Valley Ambulance Sub-centre)

3. Number of casualties and type of injuries/problems

4. Follow the prompts and answer additional information as asked by the operator

If you live on a farm then additional information will help (farm name, name of the owner of the property or name of who lives at the property, approximately how many km's the farm is from the main road) and if possible it will also help if someone is available to to the main road to guide the ambulance into the property, especially at night.

Remember: The operators are based in Perth so additional information may be required to assist them in locating the nearest sub centre and getting you the help you need as soon as possible.
