Our First “Purple Carpet” Gala Celebration of Community Excellence with AngelaCARES, Inc. held Friday, July 25, 2014 at the Chandelier Restaurant, 1081 Broadway in Bayonne, NJ 07002 with a start time of 6:00pm was a great night for all community members.
We are proud to announce that our very first gala event did, indeed, truly honor Jeremy Garriga, Sidney Acosta, and Elizabeth Hemingway! Additionally, AngelaCARES, Inc. is also very thankful to have experienced, along with you, the blessings of talents and wisdom shared at the event by Makeba Green, Alfa Demmellash, Serenity Jackson and Carol Valleau. We are so THANKFUL and GRATEFUL to GOD and to EVERYONE who made AngelaCARES 1st Gala a success on July 25th. The night was indeed a success and fun! To have 94 people attend our 1st Gala made a statement. We give a special thank you to our sponsors. We did our best to make it an enjoyable night for you. We are so proud of the honorees Jeremy Garriga, Elizabeth Hemingway and Sidney Acosta. You looked beautiful, your stories are awesome, what you do in the community is great and your acceptance speech were fabulous! Thank you for allowing AngelaCARES to celebrate you. Makeba Green, you did an awesome job speaking to us as a keynote speaker. You are doing phenomenal things. We salute you. We thank Carol Valleau and Serenity Jackson for their G.A.G. performance. Your poems touched everyone including us. We thank Jonetta for gracing us with your beautiful voice. Thank you to all the vendors, advertisers and contributors to the silent auctions. It was a peaceful day! On July 19th, we joined forces with community members and organizations to walk throughout our city chanting "We Want Peace" and we want peace now. As the group walked, more and more people joined the walk. We were thankful to have the Jersey City Police join us too. They thanked us for coming together to make a difference. This peace walk was another great example of our community coming together as one unit for the same cause.

Dealing with Chronic Illnesses
On July 28th, we said congratulations to our newest seniors and caregivers for learning how to manage their chronic Illnesses and how to live life to the fullest! They learned some tools that will help them live a better life! This 6 Week Workshop held at Pacific Lafayette Living Senior Center was done in partnership with Sickle Cell Association of New Jersey. Congratulations and job well done! We give thanks to our volunteer instructor Ms.Temeka Adams for her dedication and commitment to AngelaCARES!

On Wednesday, July 23rd, Ms.Gwen instructed the exercise session at the Senior Space! She did an excellent job. She also accepts the opportunity of doing it again! It is great to be able inspire and empower seniors to help other fellow seniors. Job well done...

On July 30th, our volunteer Youth Instructor Olivia gave a smart phone lesson to the seniors at the Senior Space in Montclair! We love joining our youth and seniors! We thank Olivia for volunteering and sharing her knowledge with the seniors! In return, the seniors gave her some jewels to use to in life! Bridging the gap is what it is called!

And who do we have here? It is Norma! Norma is one of our Volunteer Event Planners. She started volunteering with us in July! Norma played an instrumental role in planning the Curries Woods BBQ Cook off and Community Affair that we had in partnership with Jersey City Housing Authority.

Since partnering with CarePoint Health early this year, we had at least five Mobile Truck Testing Stops! We've connected and spoke with 100+ seniors/residents! All of these community members received FREE Cholesterol and Blood Pressure screening along with getting to know more about AngelaCARES! It is a blessing that these awesome residents know their numbers. Now, they can take the necessary actions to live their best life! For five weeks during this summer, we were blessed to have Eurydice and Daisha as our summer youth interns! It was a pleasure having both of them part of Team AngelaCARES! During their short tenure, they were able to help make a difference and we salute them both! We wish Eurydice and Daisha much success on beginning a new school year! We thank Urban League of Hudson County for partnering with us and assigning these two precious youth to AngelaCARES!

We are proud to be part of We Are One! Our first annual Family Day in the Park was a huge success!
On August 3rd from 12pm - 7pm, in collaboration with the city, We Are One planned and had a great day with the community! This day was for family and friends (youth, adults and elders) to enjoy a day in the park with music, laughter, joy and so much more! Our mayor, Mayor Fulop joined us and even played basketball with the fellas! Family Day in the Park was truly a day that will be remembered forever! On August 5th, we were excited to have a table at National Night Out! During the Annual National Night Out, community members were able to stop by our table at Audubon Park! We shared information and also raffled off a few spa sessions to the community!

Great Success on August 8th! Brothers Harriman’s Summer Youth, United Way of Hudson County, Forever Girls and AngelaCARES joined together to bring grammar, high school and college youth together! We thank United Way for their partnership in making this happen! We also give thanks to Brothers Harriman, Forever Girls and the youth (summer interns and summer campers) for making it a success! There were laughter, exercise, walking, story time and so much more...

On August 23rd, Alpha Kappa Alpha's Book Bag and Safety event was a great success! We thank Alpha Kappa Alpha for having us be part of their event! We gave out 200+ toiletry packs to children and adults! We thank our community partner CarePoint Health for their toiletries donation this year!

We are thankful and grateful that during the month of August, we were able to give 15 youth a bookbag filled with school supplies for this new school year! We thank our supporter PRNewswire for making this happen! The youth including their parents were so thankful for the blessing!

For the 2nd year in the row, we were able to participate in Metropolitan’s Health Clinic Week this August! We invited Forever Girls Summer Camp to join us! While sharing information to the community and giving out toiletry packs, we were able to enjoy some Zumba with the girls!

BBQ Cook Off and Community Affair

On August 16th, Jersey City Housing Authority and AngelaCARES kicked off our partnership with a BBQ Cook-off and Community Affair at one of JCHA site's Curries Woods! It was truly an also day for the entire community! We had community vendors for all walks of life, music, arts/crafts and so much love! Some of the residents participated in the BBQ Cook-off! It was a great event and everyone had an awesome time. We look forward to continuing our wonderful partnership with JCHA!
