Welcome to this SUSTAiN Alert, with news for the voluntary and community sector in Solihull.
After the Summer break there's plenty of news and a lot going on to let you know about.

CEO's Blog

With a number of key votes coming up and recent turnout figures staggeringly low, Dave Pinwell (Colebridge Trust CEO) asks what the electorate will vote for.

Funding

Funding schemes that are newly advertised on the SUSTAiN website in the last fortnight.
  • Hilden Charitable fund - certain areas of disadvantage: homelessness, asylum seekers & refugees, young people, penal affairs
  • Ernest Cook Trust - work with young people (esp. environment, arts, literacy & numeracy)
  • Creative English - grants to help English language confidence
  • Youth Music - music-making projects for children & young people
  • Family Sign Language grants
  • Cash 4 Clubs - grants for sports clubs to invest in facilities, equipment or coaching
  • Law Society Charity grants - for projects that promote human rights, access to justice or legal education
  • Community Rights - feasibility grants, for organisations considering taking over a public service, building or land
Loan finance:
  • Finding Finance - a new resource to search for available loan finance for charities and community enterprises

Training

  • Relate - workshops for professionals between September and November, including:
    - Skills for Listening to Children
    - Supporting Separating Families
    - Theory and Practice of Engaging Young People
    plus other courses for professionals and public.

  • *25 Sep: Data Protection - Your Obligations; run by the Information Commissioner's Office

  • *14 Oct: Autism Central Event - exhibition and programme of workshops and seminars

  • *5 Nov: Implications of the Care Act 2014 for safeguarding adults, run by SWICDA

December:

  • 2 Dec: Giving Tuesday - for the first time in the UK, global campaign to give to charity
