Oregon Food Bank is seeking an energetic, highly motivated Garden Education & Training Coordinator who thrives in a fast-paced, highly-fluid, work environment. As the Garden Education & Training Coordinator you excel in multi-tasking, goal-setting, accountability, and workload prioritization. You are proficient in a wide range of gardening and teaching skills. You are culturally savvy, enjoy working with people from all walks of life, and are able to demonstrate inclusivity and equity in all that you do.
This is a full time position, scheduled Monday to Friday November to March and Tuesday to Saturday April to October. There is frequent travel for work performed in the community and in support of garden education in the Portland Metro area.

Who you are:
You care deeply about people experiencing hunger and hold them in the center of all that you do. You believe that no one should be hungry and that together we can solve hunger. You bring hands-on vegetable gardening experience and are known for your strategic, curious, nimble and enthusiastic nature. You excel at fostering relationships and open dialogue with your peers and community stakeholders, leading to stronger and more efficient partnerships and programs. You have an exceptional ability to quickly address setbacks, troubleshoot issues, and seamlessly direct multiple priorities at the same time. You want to spend some time outside in the garden, but your passion also lies with developing curriculum, lesson plans, and evaluation tools to teach adults and youth living on low incomes the joys and benefits of gardening. You are self-directed, yet flexible, and excel in a swiftly changing, team-oriented, and entrepreneurial environment.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Manage the integrity, consistency, implementation and growth of Seed to Supper, a nationally recognized garden education program for adults, including the development of lesson plans, training materials, new curricula, and support materials.
  • Develop relationships and strategies with community organizations and social service agencies for the implementation of effective Seed to Supper classes.
  • Provide program administration, training, and support to regional partners implementing OFB's Seed to Supper program throughout Oregon and Clark County, Washington.
  • Provide leadership and manage logistical support for Seed to Supper, primarily in the Portland metro area, including AmeriCorps member supervision, class scheduling, volunteer recruitment, training, and recognition.
  • Work collaboratively to build relationships and linkage with local and regional gardening organizations, social service and hunger-relief agencies, food systems organizations, and other partners, and oversee distribution of garden supply and equipment donations to these partners.
  • Serve as a garden programming consultant to OFB's Partner Agencies, Regional Food Banks, Community Food Systems partners, and other valuable stakeholders by offering troubleshooting, training, technical assistance, and other support.
  • Develop tools and resources to support, monitor, evaluate and grow garden education programs and measure their success.
  • Lead garden-based activities for groups of Rachel Carson Environmental Middle School at OFB's Westside Learning Garden during the school year.
  • Oversee program workplan, budget, grant reporting, evaluation, and other related administrative duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience of the Ideal Candidate:
  • Minimum 4 years of demonstrated success in educational program development and coordination.
  • Demonstrated expertise or education in community-based sustainable agriculture, small-scale farming, or vegetable gardening using organic practices in the Pacific Northwest.
  • Proven track record training, coordinating, and effectively managing diverse volunteers.
  • Proven ability in adult education, curriculum development, and train-the-trainer models.
  • A collaborative and flexible style, with a deep passion for learning and a team approach, including excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Spoken and written fluency in Spanish or another language other than English.
  • Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook) and standard office equipment.
  • Willingness to use personal vehicle for OFB business.
  • Previous work with Master Gardeners and an understanding of Cooperative Extension Services preferred.

Regional Food Systems Manager
Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF)
Watsonville, California

 
Title:              Regional Food System Manager, Central Coast and Santa Clara Valley
Region:          Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara, and San Mateo counties
Location:       Watsonville Office
Hours:            1.0 FTE
Starting Salary:  $45,000 - $55,000/year + full medical, dental, and vision

The Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to advocate for California family farms and sustainable agriculture. CAFF is a membership organization guided by a board of directors that includes family farmers and others who are passionate about food, farming and the environment. CAFF runs Regional Food Systems projects such as Farm to School projects, Buy Fresh Buy Local campaigns, and providing technical assistance in accessing new markets to farmers around the state. The Regional Food System Managers (RFSMs) are primarily responsible for overseeing CAFF’s current programs and developing opportunities for program growth in a particular region. This position is in charge of overall programming in the region and is integral to elevating CAFF’s presence in the region. RFSMs may, pending funding, hire support staff or work with other CAFF staff to carry out projects. Specific projects implemented will vary depending on the region’s needs and current landscape. RFSM’s responsibilities are divided into program management and regional development. The division of time between program management and regional development should be approximately 50/50 but will vary depending on funding and project needs. In the Santa Clara Valley and Central Coast, CAFF operates a robust Farm to School program that includes providing technical assistance to 8 school districts in procuring local food and delivering Harvest of the Month Tasting Kits to over 700 classrooms in the region. In addition, CAFF operates a Farm to Market program that combines technical assistance in supporting family farmers in sales and marketing with a broad consumer education campaign under the umbrella of the Buy Fresh Buy Local brand. Currently the program staff consists of 2 coordinators and 2 Americorps members. RFSMs report to the Program Director.
 
Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
 
Program Management (50%):
  • Oversee current projects in the region, such as the Farm to School, Harvest of the Month Tasting Kits, and Buy Fresh Buy Local campaigns, etc.
  • Lead implementation of key projects
  • Develop Farm to School and Buy Fresh Buy Local efforts in the region
  • Coordinate with other staff on program offerings in region (such as food safety and water workshops, for example)
  • Evaluate results of implemented projects
  • Track all program results
  • Manage local funder relationships and reporting
  • Support and supervise staff and/or Americorps Members
  • Conduct weekly checks-ins with coordinators to ensure progress on work plans 
Regional Development (40%):
  • Build membership in the region
  • Write grants and grant reports
  • Manage relationships with partners
  • Conduct outreach to potential partners/customers
  • Build and maintain relationships with regional farmers to keep up to date with their needs
  • Participate in local collaborative efforts and develop relationships with potential partners and funders
  • Conduct presentations to promote CAFF’s work; promote fee for service offerings
  • Identify and apply for local opportunities for program funding
  • Strategize ways for building community support for CAFF’s programs
  • Work with Communications Director on media and outreach opportunities
Program Administration (10%):
  • Collaborate with regional staff statewide
  • Work with Program Director on fundraising, program strategy, and budgets
  • Manage data collection and funder reports
  • Handle administrative duties in the regional office
  • Manage timesheet and expense approvals for regional staff
  • Participate in monthly RFS Team Meetings over Google Hangout, quarterly in person RFSM meetings, and 2 all team in person retreats
  • Conduct bi-monthly check in calls with Director
 
Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in the field
  • At least 2 years of experience in fundraising
  • At least 1 year of experience in supervising staff
  • Experience in working with non-profits required
  • Santa Cruz, Monterey, or Santa Clara County residency strongly preferred
  • Experience in working with farmers and/or with schools required
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail preferred  
  • Αbility to multi-task and organize large amounts of data
  • Resourceful and able to perform a variety of administrative and organizational tasks with a creative approach to problem solving
  • Flexibility to work independently, with minimal supervision, as well as collaborate with others in a team setting
  • Proficiency in Survey Monkey, Constant Contact, Adobe Indesign, Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and experience using web and blog-based programs preferred
  • Willingness to work occasional weekends and evenings
  • Ability to lift 40-50 lbs.

FEED Sonoma (The Farmers Exchange of Earthly Delights) is seeking to hire a full-time employee to support the co-directors and assist in operations management.  The ideal candidate is a vibrant, passionate, disciplined self-starter who can help us fulfill our mission to be of service to our Sonoma County farmers. This is an entry-level position, but we are looking for someone with an interest in playing a long-term, leadership roll in our organization.  If you are interested in developing skills to help solve the problems that plague the American food system, this is a great opportunity to get hands-on work experience in creating a food hub that meets the needs of farmers and the communities they feed.
 
We want to prioritize on-boarding someone who can work with us full-time (40hrs/wk), who feels confident that they can dedicate at least a year towards our endeavor, starting immediately. We are seeking someone who can roll up their sleeves and pitch in through the remainder of this growing season by helping out in various capacities. This includes bookkeeping, warehousing, truck driving and logistics, small farm support, general office work, and customer service.  In short, we could use a hand in pretty much every department and we are looking for someone who can be flexible, thoughtful, consistent and a problem solver.  Ability to lift up to 50lbs and a clean driving record is a plus.
 
Our business week fluctuates a bit with our delivery schedules, and this position will need to accommodate for this; your typical work-week hours:
Monday 8am-5pm
Tuesday 5am-2pm
Wednesday 10-5pm
Thursday 8am-5pm
Friday 5am-2pm

FEED Sonoma (The Farmers Exchange of Earthly Delights) is seeking to hire a full-time driver.  The ideal candidate is a vibrant, passionate, disciplined self-starter who can help us fulfill our mission to be of service to our Sonoma County farmers.  We have a small but growing fleet of trucks that pick up and deliver produce here in the Bay Area, and we are looking for a driver who knows the region and feels comfortable driving 14-18’ box trucks and cargo vans.  
 
We want to prioritize on-boarding someone on who can work with us full-time (40hrs/wk), who feels confident that they can dedicate at least a year towards our endeavor, starting immediately.   We are seeking someone who can roll up their sleeves and pitch in through the remainder of this growing season by helping out in various capacities.  This includes truck maintenance, scheduling, route logistics, working with the management team, scheduling deliveries
This position is open until filled, salary commensurate with experience.
