Library Scuttlebutt
Summer Reading Club winding down
Anyone who couldn't make it to the SRC medal ceremony Aug. 21, or hasn't quite finished the 50 days of reading - never fear! Club members have until mid September to finish and can stop by the library anytime before September 15 to pick up their medals. Congratulations to all of our reading club members.
Sunday hours return September 7
The days may be getting shorter, but library hours are getting longer. As of September 7 we will again be open on Sundays from 12 to 4 pm.
Roof Replacement
Our much needed new roof is coming along very nicely. Thank you for your patience and caution around the building during construction. We expect to have the roof completed by early September - and certainly hope it's done before the rain returns.
Friends of the Library Book Donations
After a well deserved summer rest, our hard working Friends of the Library are getting ready to sort and pack donated books once again. The Friends will accept good condition book donations starting September 16, 2014 and continuing until early spring 2015. Bring your donations to the library anytime we are open.

The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin
This tale takes place on Alice Island off the coast of Massachusetts - an island very like our Bowen. Yes, it is a book about one man’s storied life, but it is also about other complicated lives and love and about selling books and reading books. Gabrielle Zevin’s own love of books is gently woven into her tale as she demonstrates how we readers sometimes carry treasured novels around with us for years, not just in our knapsacks, but in our hearts. I didn’t want this book to end. I relished each morsel and wanted to make it last like a good dessert.
