Keeping Kentville Connected

In Kentville, the railway began as the Windsor and Annapolis Railway in 1869. When the train began, the population of Kentville rose from 664 people to 1779! In 1871 the railway line expanded as a stop was added in  Yarmouth and the railway they added a stop in Yarmouth and then became the Dominion Atlantic Railway.

Originally, the train had three carriages - one for people, one for horses and one for carriages. That way people could continue their journey via their own transportation when they arrived at the station closest to their destination.

The Kentville station was built in 1868 and remained unaltered until the addition of lights in 1892. In 1902 it was decided that the building was insufficient to handle the growing passenger traffic and it was expanded. Passenger numbers continued to grow and the building was expanded again in 1910. The station was torn down in 1990. It sat near where Cleveland's Paint Store is today!
