News from RPC - Security in God Alone, Psalm 125; Rally Day is Sept 7th
Our Security is God

"Surrounded"

Psalm 125

Sometimes we get anxious about whether we are secure in Christ or not. A lot of our life is safer than the time of the writer of this Psalm. In a time when life was much less certain, the people who sang this "song of ascent" on their way to Jerusalem found comfort in seeing the strong city surrounded by mountains. In the same way, it reminded them, the Lord surrounded his people. And he still does.

But our security is challenged by our feelings, our sufferings, and our fear of backsliding. Can those things separate us from God in Christ?...

Please consider saving your clean, gently used and new items for the church bazaar.  The bazaar will be held on Saturday, November 8th and donations can be dropped off to the Foster Hall stage starting in September.  Everything is being accepted:  new items, books, movies, music, furniture, toys, holiday items, jewelry, etc.  Please just make sure that donations are clean and not broken.  Spread the word – tell your friends and neighbors.  If you are unable to bring the donations to church and need the donations picked up or want to get them out of your house now, contact the church office 215-342-2112 and arrangements can be made.

School Supply Drive.  In August, school supplies are dramatically on sale at many of the big box stores.  A great way to support our Children’s Ministry would be to go shopping, while the prices are low!  Here is a list of what we need:  Elmer’s Glue, crayons, scotch tape, pencils, colored pencils, glue sticks, staplers, staple removers, sharpies – colored, sticky note pads and index cards.  You can place your donations in the Children’s Ministry basket in the Narthex.

Interfaith Hosting.  During the month of September we will once again be hosting two families from Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network.  There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex if you would like to volunteer to cook a meal, host a meal or do a sleep-over.  If you have any questions, please see Joy Lorah.

Rally Day is almost here, and it will be a special day!  It is a big day for our Children’s Ministry as we commission our teachers and volunteer staff. We also will be taking our Annual All-Church Picture right after Worship, and new this year, stay after for an All-Church Picnic in the side yard, hosted by Children’s’ Ministry. Bring a picnic lunch with you, and maybe something to share, drinks and dessert will be provided. By the way, this is a great day to invite a friend or neighbor, maybe even someone who doesn’t know Jesus yet!

Church Office Hours.  Starting September 1, 2014 the Church Office will be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-2 pm.

On August 10 Meghan and Erin McClain shared a presentation about their trip to Costa Rica.
