New Zealand Youth Choir in the South Island

The members of the New Zealand Youth Choir have just assembled in the historic city of Dunedin at the start of their residential week of rehearsals.

Details on the concerts in Dunedin St Paul’s Cathedral on 5 September (advance sales from MusicWorks Dunedin) and Christchurch on 6 September (tickets from Ticketek) can be found on the Choirs Aotearoa website.

Requiem for the Fallen

On Sunday 19 October, South Island concert-goers will have their first opportunity to experience the Ross Harris/Vincent O’Sullivan commission in commemoration of World War I. It will feature the New Zealand String Quartet, Voices New Zealand Chamber Choir, taonga puoro composer Horomona Horo, and tenor Richard Greager under the baton of Karen Grylls. Dunedin Town Hall will be reconfigured in a dramatic and unique way by director Jonathan Alver to stage this work. Click here for more information.

Of the premiere in the NZ Festival in February, John Button in the Dominion Post described it as "an unforgettable occasion".

How was it for you?

Would you like to become a concert reviewer? Here’s your opportunity to let us know what you really thought of the concert.

After each New Zealand Youth Choir or Voices New Zealand Chamber Choir concert, we are going to ask the conductor to write his/her mini-review of the performance, which we will post on the performing choir’s Facebook page. Access these Facebook pages via: www.choirsnz.co.nz

The conductor’s review will appear sometime during the day after the performance, so you will have plenty of time to polish up your contribution. Please try and keep your review to 50 words or less.

We’re looking forward to hearing from you.
