RESTORING THE VOTING RIGHTS ACT AND ADVANCING DEMOCRACY
Elections should be free, fair and accessible. We need to work together to eliminate barriers to the ballot box and protect the right to vote. When the right to vote is not protected, discriminatory laws are implemented, people are disenfranchised, and are not able to elect representatives of their choice.

Preventing the Right to Vote
Over the last few years, barriers have been implemented that make it harder for people of color to vote in the United States. This was demonstrated through the 2013 Supreme Court decision, Shelby County v. Holder which invalidated the formula that determined which required jurisdictions with a history of discrimination to preclear their voting changes before the Department of Justice or a 3 Judge Panel in Washington, DC before they were implemented. We have also seen legislatures across the country pass laws making it harder to vote. These laws have implemented strict voter ID laws, eliminated early voting days and hours, eliminated same day voter registration, and closed and consolidated polling places.
