FIRST WORD from PASTOR CHIP STEVENS

I want to compliment you on being so flexible through this construction period. This has been a year of adjustments, but you have handled it all so well. Another adjustment for us is that, on Mondays-Fridays, the only door open to get to the church offices is the door facing Washington Street on the bottom floor of the Applegate Building. This is because the demolition work in the old office area is beginning. Therefore, if you're visiting the office, it will be best to park behind the Applegate Building or along Washington Street to have closer access to that door. From there, either walk up the steps or take the elevator and you'll be right at the new office area. Thanks, again, for being so gracious.

We're hoping that you're making plans to join us for the Song of Solomon study on Sunday nights beginning Sept. 14, and that you're inviting people to come. Promotional materials will be handed out soon. Please take this opportunity to invite unchurched friends and co-workers and pray that God will use this study to make a big difference in families in our community.

With the Labor Day weekend, we will have no Sunday evening activities. Enjoy Sunday night with your family!

Encouraging Educators
Sunday, September 7 | 5:00 pm | Outreach Center

On Sunday, September 7, the FBC family has a great opportunity to be a blessing to many of the educators in our community. We will meet in the Outreach Center at 5:00 pm, and groups will pack goodie bags and write encouraging notes to teachers from our targeted schools. Families and individuals will then deliver these gifts to the specific schools, and we will have the opportunity to pray for each of the teachers at the schools on each individual campus.

Join with the FBC family to encourage this special group of people in our community!

HeartFriends Coffee Shop

It’s not too late to get involved with the HeartFriends Bible study group for the fall and the first study will be a study on the book of Esther from the Coffee Cup Series. Book price: $10. Heartfriends is open to any women of any age.

Are you in graduate school? Want to join a Sunday School class? Then the Grad Class is for you! Join us this Sunday in the CWJC building (yellow brick building across from the old chapel) at 9:00 am.

New Foyer Construction
Beginning Monday, August 25, demolition and construction of the New Foyer will begin. Please use the Washington St. entrance to access the Applegate building and the church office. Please be sure to check First Words weekly for updates on this phase of the project.

5:00 p.m. - join us for in depth Bible study that’ll provide you with practical ways to read & study the Bible on your own

5:30 - Supper in the OC
6:00 - Worship & Bible study in the OC; this week we’ll be wrapping up our series The Comparison Trap; next week we’ll have a special theme night, Chaos, of worship, Bible study and games

Overflow Host Needed
We need an host in our Applegate Choir 'Overflow' room to help out on Sunday mornings. The job description is to control lighting, audio levels and doors and to turn the Video system off at the completion of the service. It's EASY!! Contact Tom Jenkins to volunteer or for more information. A rotation schedule can be worked out if several volunteers are available.

Camera Operators Needed
We use camera to record our second service and to provide a audio/video feed to our 'overflow' room. The schedule is only about once a month and you can sit with your family in the balcony to control the camera. Operation is pretty simple and training is available. Contact Tom Jenkins to volunteer or for more information.

Celebration Choir Christmas
Christmas rehearsals begin on Sept 10. Join the choir on Wednesdays at 6 pm ASAP to be a part! Childcare is provided beginning at 5:45 through our different Preschool, Children and Youth ministries.
