DOE announces intent to issue funding opportunity for algae biofuels and bioproducts

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) wants to tackle high costs of algae biofuels and bioproducts. Read more
 

Aquafuel algae fuel to be used to power electric Grand Prix series

The championship organizers have signed a deal to supply generators powered by glycerine for the race cars to recharge on. Glycerine is a byproduct of e.g. biodiesel which can also be produced from saltwater algae. The fuel is biodegradable, nontoxic and can be used in modified diesel generators to produce power.
