Tax for Expats: With AustCham Beijing &
Lehman Brown

Yesterday, the expats who attended the tax seminar were enlightened with lots of tax related knowledge they were not familiar with. The seminar was given by Mr. Russell Brown, Treasurer of AustCham and Founder and Managing Partner of Lehman Brown. Many raved about how easy Russell made it for everyone to understand and left excited to start reaping their tax benefits as an expat.

The lecture not only provided the unique insights about how to calculate individuals’ tax in different circumstances but also the rules and regulations that is applied to various groups. During Q&A, there were a lot of questions from the floor, thus highlighting that Russell had raised significant awareness and interest.

Thank you again to Lehman Brown and Crown Plaza who made the event a true success.

Education Working Group - Universities
Round-table Meeting
On Friday the 18th of August AustCham Beijing's Education Working Group held a meeting at China World Hotel for members in the universities sector as an industry round-table discussion of Australian universities in China. With representatives from eight Australian universities, two U.S universities, Navitas, and Beijing Consulting Group, it was a unique opportunity for the university sector to discuss issues, challenges and recommendations for the sector.

In recent decades, Australian universities have gained a reputation as being a top destination for Chinese students, and as a strong sector, Australian universities are continuously developing a stronger engagement with China. The meeting addressed key areas such as student recruitment, establishing a presence in China, marketing in China, student mobility, joint research, and alumni & philanthropy. As a sector, this was a great way to exchange ideas on how to develop a stronger engagement between Australia and China.

One of the great unknowns when moving overseas is the healthcare situation of your new home.

There are many misconceptions about the healthcare situation in China, ranging from medical services available to safety and continuity of care.

Fortunately, there are a number of private international healthcare providers in China that offer both foreigners and Chinese a higher standard of outpatient medical service.

Among them, however, there is only one internationally-accredited hospital and clinic network in China, United Family Healthcare. Beijing United Family Hospital and Clinics (BJU) is the only truly full-service international standard hospital in the capital, with 7 satellite clinics across the city and suburbs.
